i have to ask yalls opinion

first i work at an industrial plant(security) and there are 3 other guards who work at the gate with me gate. well one of them quit th other day so we have been short-staffed. so the two guards we have left are acting like children. one of the guards lets call him J1 and the other guard lets call her J2 switched shifts .so that J1 could have saturday off for his birthday. ok well the friday night before this J1 called in sick which left J2 here for about 10 hrs past her shift well i had to work the next morningf so when i came in on sat. morning i did not know this stuff had been going on. well when it came time for me to get off i called both of them and both of them refused to come in at all. so i call my supervisor and told him.well i guess he called them at home. well now j2 has quit so i was stuck working from 0430-2100 and then had to come back at 0100-1630. But the thing that makes me the most mad is that J1 did not get in trouble at all and i know for a fact that he was at a party and the sad thing is my supervisor knows as well. well thank yall i just needed to rant a little.this is the third sat. that J1 has called in.

I am not sure what you want from us except to listen to your rant. I find it hard to have sympathy for you because YOU let it happen. Do you own the company? Do you have some sort requirement in your contract that forces you to stay? Are you a government facility?
My union contract states that I can be ordered to stay at work for up to 16 hours. I cannot be forced to work more than 16 hours, and must have 8 hours off before my next shift. But that is in the contract.....
I am sure your company cannot leave the gate unattended ever, but that is why your boss is making the big bucks. Someone calls in sick, and he/she is responsible for finding someone. If you agree to work, then you can't ***** about it. If he forces you to work under threat of being fired, then go to the labor board. If that kind of schedule is in your contract (if you even have one), then you have a shi**y negotiator.
    Stop complaining and DO something.

I would either find another job or maybe talk to your Human Resources people about this. Not sure if I understood you correctly but there could be some labor law violations and/or some violations of your contract or work-related agreement (If you have something like that in place to begin with). And, sounds like your boss is operating this position without any kind of a backup plan too. i.e.: someone calls in sick or quits, no one available to relieve.

Personally, I would tell him to kiss my butt (In a very tactful way) and I'd find greener pastures somewhere else.

Welcome to the Wounderful World of Security. It is that way every place.

    Enjoy the overtime.

By the way everyone else is right. There is only a few things abought it you
can do Lesten to them. 1st Talk to HR
and your Boss abought getting more people hired and trained for the post.
But if you ever wanted to move up this is your chance to step up and take
charge. If you cry abought it then you will not go very much farther than
working at the main enterance. That's just the way things work.

Do everything as other people suggested and here are some humble advise:-

Seriously take enough sleep or rest or else you might face problem when you are on the shift the next day.

Accident might happens if you keep going on like this.

    Take care and cheers!

By the way, what stump said is correct! Based on my humble suggestion: Work Smart instead of Hard! You need to work hard too but with the Smart Way!
