I went for my first ride-along last night. I go into the academy dec 04' and wanted to "see how it all works" before I started. I was 99.99999% sure I wanted to be a cop, now I'm 110% sure without a doubt in my mind that's what I want to be. Everyone I talked to had nothing bad to say, they gave nothing but good advice about the academy and life as a LEO, we had fun but were serious when we needed to be (we got to arrest a guy with a warrant at a wedding!), and I learned how things "work" while your on duty (patrol areas, responding to calls, back-up, etc.). Alot of unanswered questions about the job were answered in just 8 hours of observation. I cannot say anything bad about the experience. Not that I thought cops weren't real people, but seeing the "brotherhood" and "family type atmosphere" made me feel like you'll never be alone on or off duty. I'm so excited to purse my career as a LEO. I guess I just wanted to post a good experience, and to let anyone who thinks they want to become a cop. Try a ride-along it might change your outook.
