One of our guys broke his leg yesterday pursuing a subject that was found to have a large sum of money at the screening checkpoint.
The individual was found to have a large bulge on his person. When TSA pulled him aside to conduct a private screening, he bolted out of the airport terminal on foot. An officer nearby observed the subject and gave chase on foot. Somewhere in the long-term parking lot he fell and broke his tib/fib around his ankle. He was able to draw down on the subject and hold his position until backup arrived.
The suspect was arrested for resisting stop/halt/frisk, and disorderly conduct. Only two misdemeanor offenses here in TN. It was later found that the suspect ran because he had over $20,000 in cash hidden in layers of clothes. DEA has seized the money and hopefully federal charges will be pending. Unfortunately, we didn't have much to charge him with locally.
Our officer had surgery last night and is doing fine. Hopefully a full recovery will follow and he will be back to work soon. Stay safe. ;)
