The local university (Northern Michigan University--Public Safety Institute) held it's graduation Friday with a record breaking class. 49 recruits (44 men and 5 women graduated in the ceremony, which was the most in the academy's 9 year history.
The 16 week course consisted of physical training, firearms training, criminal law and hazmat training.
I think we can wish all the recruits well in their future.

Small program but it is one of the best on the state. The only difference is that everyone just has to go to Feriss State becuase of the Kegger parties. Right Jay?
The one on one is so much better at NMU.

See - now thats how I wish they had it round' here! Go to college and have the academy in the college. Most of the departments around this area have academys of their own. Although I know the local community college near my university has an academy built in - and Im not quite sure how the system works compared the Academy's back on the western shore!
Ill figure it out eventually!

Michigan academies run between 16-24 weeks depending on what all that academy does. Macomb Police Academy runs 22 weeks because they certify you in everything including radar, asp, lein and a few others that 99% of the other academies in Michigan don't.

AS Far as I know the orginizations academy I wan tto go into lasts 14 - 16 weeks... short time compared to 6 months of so academies.

The long academies teach department policy, history and civil liability. Like Dallas PD which I am told is now 6 months long, they teach a lot of policy, history, city ordiances, civil liability on and off duty (quite indepth) then they teach how to corral (sp) and hog time bulls :D.
