    Police Superstitions And You!

Superstitions were mentioned in another thread and I though it warranted it's own. The question is, what's your police superstition or O.C.D.??

I have two... make it three...

    1) I refuse to let anyone handle my fire arm at the range. For whatever reason I'm afraid they are going to break it.

    2) My boot laces are always crossed left over right.

    3) I always have my St. Michael's Prayer Card in my vest pocket.

    Let's hear yours!

    These are mine

    1) Never EVER say its quiet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If someone on my unit says it we make em do major occ reports....as long as one from us is not required.

    2) I check my handcuffs at the begining of the shift. After lunch, and before I go home.

    3) If someone else has used the bike I'm issued with the previous shift I inspect it like crazy even though it gets inspected by a Sargeant.

    4) I have the St. Michael's Prayer and a picture of my goddaughter in a small ziploc baggy taped to the inside of my carrier for my vest.

    Mine are:

I have to draw and dry fire my firearm at least a few times (no less then 3) before I head out the door for work. (obsessive compulsive behavior?)

I dread working nights with a full moon or on Friday the 13th - heh, go figure I'm working tonight :(

If I don't arrive for shift change at least a half an hour early, it's gonna be a badddd night in regards to calls for service.

I've had a recurring dream/nightmare for years now of a traffic stop at night on a black/dark blue in color mustang with several occupants inside the vehicle. Upon approach, the driver shoots me. Needless to say I'm that much more safety conscience when stopping a mustang fitting the description.
Go ahead and run.....my k-9 partner loves the exercise

I've got the same dream about vans, must be common.

Bodies always come in threes. So when I get my first for the weekend I know I've two more following it up.

My recurring dream/nightmare involves me shooting someone over and over with them showing no effect. I have it about twice a year.

I hate it when it rains, I am paranoid about getting up on the highway because everyone forgets how to drive in inclement weather.

I also have that shooting dream from time to time. I have found the best way to dispel it from my psyche is to go to the range and reaffirm that I have the skills in firearms to win the day.
You know the difference between a job and a duty? A job you can refuse to do because it's dangerous; a duty you must do even if it is dangerous.
