    Problems after a foot chase?

Ok guys I had a really intense foot pursuit on Monday. A guy assaulted someone then bolted when arrestted. Now I've been in foot pursuits before but this guy was really really fast and I really had to push myself to the limits. It was boiling hot out and I was yelling for people to stop him as he was in a major roadway by a court house (I was hoping someone outside the courthouse was a LEO there for court). A bystander tripped him which kept him down long enough for me and my partner to grab him. Now I was completly drained and the dispatcher had to ask me to 10-9 multiple times because I was having trouble breathing. Now I know it's normal...especially on hot days. About 20 mins after this guy gets picked up we get another foot pursuit. Not even close to as long. Now my question is, why two days later am I having so many muscle pains in my legs. Ive been drinking water like crazzzzyyy but it's not helping. Any suggestions? I know it's not muscle damage cause I've felt that before and it isnt that.

Oh yeah and my current record for my Unit in the last three shifts is 6 arrests. Thats alot for us We are working hard....sorry just wanted to brag a bit...I know some of you guys get six a day.

With regards to the pain, you may have pushed yourself further than you thought or possibly had done before.

Rest for a few days (if you can). If not get the rookies to chase thats what they're there for :D

However, remember this advice is from some called fatboyjim.

Sounds like those muscles aren't too happy with you. You over-exerted yourself. Maybe take some over-the-counter meds & see if that helps. If not, you may have a more serious problem.

BTW, congrats on all those arrests! WAY TO GO!

Sounds like your muscles are sore. If it's not a sharp stabbing pain and just a general soreness you may be OK but go see your Dr. to be sure. And congrats on catching them!

OK , how many birthdays do you lay claim to and are you in shape for running ? But congrats for getting the bad guy ! I sprained my thumb back on 7-18 wrestling with a drunk, still hurts to lift stuff a certain way but it's getting better. It's part of the job.

mcsap asked two good questions. If you haven't been running alot, you probably put alot of stress on your muscles. Your muscles will be sore after a good workout, if it has only been 2 days since I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm no doctor but obviously if they are still bugging you by Friday or this weekend you might want to see your doctor.

OK " JR " J/K !! Even at 21 if you don't normally exert yourself like you did, you will likely feel something. Been there, done that. I run regularly at age 43 but I suspect that if I did what you did, I might even qualify for a couple of days of light duty but I hate to let the bad guy escape.

Few people train to truly exert themselves on a regular basis except some serious athletes. The heat and humidity makes a DIFFERENCE. I have been running for 26 yrs and have calendars going back quite a ways. I keep track of my time , pulse and distance. Heat and or humidity take their toll on performance and I don't run wearing my vest, gun belt etc either !!

You forgot to warm up and stretch first. ;) Oh yeah, not an option. Occupational hazard. Glad to hear you are OK.

oh yeah i wanted to ask another thing...usually after a foot chase or a very serious incident i get serious shakes...my hands just start shaking...i know this is because of the adrenaline dump...is there anyway to control it or shorten the time of the effect? they dont provide us with this type of training...are ther any books i could read or anything else?

Get some space away if you can, sit and concentrate on deep breaths and getting your heart rate down. This will help you compose.
