    Help?

Sorry i posted this in hiring already but I need and answer soon.

I applied and passed the written and physical exam for my local PD. When I got the letter saying I would hear from them for the time for the poly, (the next step) I was excited. They told us when taking the original test that it could be three months before we heard anything at all as there were so many applicants, so the month seemed short.

    Timeline:
    4/6/02 Physical/written test
5/1/02 Notice of move to next stage "you will be notified of you poly date and time in the future"

    8/12/02 still waiting...

While waiting for my poly date I met/ran into someone that was also sent the same letter, but this person’s last name starts with an L and he took the poly over a month ago. This is fine but there are only about 60 applicants and I cannot believe all of them passed the written/physical. My name starts with a W and while I do remember while standing in line at the test the end of the alphabet was stacked. Here is where it gets interesting, the person said he had his ob a week later and was sent up for merit board approval. Now if the dept. was only looking for 4 people and they are half way through, then there have got to be at least four people moving on to the merit board, which meets Wednesday. Statistically I don’t think I have a chance still. Can they just forget about me, or say I fail the poly just to keep it legal. I just cannot believe I am getting a fair shot. I am just a little paranoid, and I don’t know how to call and ask about it
"Hey guys, I think you forgot about me........... Oh... okay... well then I guess I will have to wait until next year......... thanks..."

This department does not require college, which i have little of. My other thought is they looked for grads first. Does this happen or am I just being lame... (Be nice)

I know I answered your other post, but my point was....to be involved. The hiring personell are more likely to follow up on someone who is calling and checking on the status of their package. It gets your name around the department, even if it's just a post-it note on someone's desk. Just a suggestion on what to say.....

"Good afternoon ma'am/sir, my name is _______. I was just calling to find out the status of my hiring package. I have already taken the physical test & written exam, I was supposed to take the polygraph around this time but I haven't heard from anyone. Do you know who I can speak to, to find out where I am in the process? "

Something like that....make it your statement. Just make sure you always call and check up on your paperwork and the process. It's good to have your name circulating. The guys who aren't calling in don't have a face or name with the department until the department calls them. Good luck.
