    Minnesota POST Board Exam

    Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here has taken the MN POST board exam? Of even greater interest would be the Reciprocity Exam for state licensure in Minnesota. I am a WI LEO and will be taking the reciprocity test coming up. Looking for any tips on what to study in terms of statues, laws, etc. Feel free to PM me also if you have any other information that could be useful. I have already ordered the two huge packets of statues and have only a small list of where I should be looking at in regards to studying.

I'd appreciate any information anyone has. Thanks in advance!

    Brace yourself ...

This will be one of the most off the wall tests you'll take ... just remember they're common sense questions, but you'll be asking yourself "WTF" when you're finished ...
Hopefully you have your degree, everything from Intro CJ to JV justice will be covered ... basically it will cover everything you learned from college up to your skills training ... uses of deadly force is covered big time ... study EVERYTHING thats all the advice that can be given ... good luck ...

I am definetly not looking foward to it. If I actually went to skills in MN I would be feeling better right now, but I am a sworn LEO in Wisconsin. I bought the Criminal and Traffic Statue books and trying to study off of them which is almost impossible. Don't even know where to begin and I know my college experience at Univ of MN isn't going to help much either. I am wondering how different the regular POST test is going to be from the reciprocity test. Thanks again.

Read through all criminal statutes that have "Degrees" such as 1st degree murder, 5th degree assault. There WILL be questions asking you to determine the level of the offense and/or which degree it is. Also read the theft, criminal damage to property, and burglary statutes. On the initial POST test (not neccesarily the reciprocity test) they also go into some LE history questions, like who was the first female police officer.

If you want some further info, PM me with an email address and I will discuss the test off the list. It has been five years since I took it, but I don't think it has really changed too much.
No, you've got the wrong number. This is 9-1....2.

Thanks everyone. I got the results and I passed. You were right, it definetly was an off the wall test with some really wierd questions. There was a lot that I studied that wasn't on the test, and a lot on the test that I did not study. I get to press on with a department up there!

I am in the middle of a background investigation for a lateral transfer position with Saint Paul Police Department. When I was attending the University of Minnesota, I was a Reserve Officer for SPPD and enjoyed the community as well as the department. I have always wanted to become sworn with St. Paul PD as I truly believe it is a top notch department. Looks like I might have a chance of achieving my dream!

No, I would be living up in the Twin Cities area. I used to be a Community Service Officer for Cottage Grove PD when I was in college. Applied to Woodbury CSO position once but did not get past the interview!
