Hello, I want to use VHT transparent black tail light tint on my tail lights. However I don't want to get pulled over for it being too tinted. How should I go about this? How dark is too dark?

I don't know your state but in many taillights must reflect and emit light. By spraying that stuff they will no longer reflect light properly and will be a violation.
I'm from NY, and I don't wanna tint it completely because that would definitely get me in trouble...
Smoke color would be ideal, if anyone has links to street legal products, please post them.
You need to list your state to get a specific answer, but for general purpose it is illegal in most states to reduce the light output of any light on your vehicle by covering or obscuring them in any manner.
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"
You don't want to tint them so much that people can't see them and run into you at night either. The lights aren't there for decoration, there's a good reason.

Drop by your DMV office and get a driver's manual. Red lights in the rear have to be visible for so many feet in each state. See what NY is, perhaps you can find out on line, I dunno. That might give you an idea.
When you say "tint", are you talking of dimming them or changing color? If you vary the color from red, you will be meeting a nice police officer soon, no doubt.

I found a tint that's not too dramatic, it changes the color a little bit but you can tell the lights are red so I'm gonna go with that spray. It's a very dark red color...
If the tint is "transparent " as you state , then it can't be a problem.

Don't do it if your here in TX. Why on earth would you want to cover up your lights when they are there for a safety reason? THE LIGHTS ARE THERE SO YOU CAN BE SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
I write every ticket I can for that. I would much rather be arresting people than working crashes because some IDIOT wanted to make his vehicle undetectable!
