Terrible drivers and running Code 3

I had the opportunity to ride with the State police K9 unit yesterday in my state, and when we were running lights and sirens to a car wreck I had my first experience with a superbly idiotic driver i call the "independent". This is the driver that i'm sure every LEO has encountered at least once in their career. this driver is the one who when everyone else behind them is moving out of the way they stubbornly stay in front of you even when you angrily hit the air horn and alternate tones, said driver will at some point after 15-30 seconds then slow down to a snails pace and pull to the LEFT of the road causing you to have to swerve desperately to avoid said idiot. Seeings how we pulled this maneuver in a Crown Vic while going 90mph on an ice covered highway, it was hazardous at best. Ok small rant over... anybody else got other stories of drivers doing inexplicable things in reaction to the lights and sirens?

Try doing in a non-descript SUV, without all of the high visibility 360 degree lights and police markings.

ONE time in my career, I was able get revenge. I was running code 3 and some moron stopped in the middle of the street blocking me to make a left turn. Right at that moment, I was cancelled by radio! I pulled the sumbitch over and oh did he squeal when I gave him the ticket for failure to yield......

A few years ago when I was working as a fed and doing a protection detail for a VIP I was driving in the motorcade. We encountered one of these idiot drivers (despite us, 3 unmarked black SUVs and 2-3 marked police units in front and back, all having lights and sirens going) who refused to get out of a lane we needed to merge into for quite some time. They finally moved when our entire motorcade moved at once, forcing the driver off the road (and damn near colliding with us). They were lucky we had somewhere to be, as it wouldn't have taken much for the local PD to have a unit ticket the driver for failure to yield to emergency vehicles.

I got that opportunity once. Going lights and sirens to a missing 4 year old that was last seen in the front yard I believe. While enroute I got behind an F-350 utility truck... Stayed behind him for a MILE because he wouldn't move over or get off the road. After that mile a unit arrived on scene and found the child hiding on the property, so I was canceled.

I stopped the driver and he said "sorry about that, I'm a firefighter" and showed me his credentials. His excuse? He had the windows up and the diesel engine was loud. I ran his information and came back. I told him "Here's your professional courtesy, ticket, or a f*cking *** chewing?" He took the *** chewing. I made him feel about 3 inches tall at the conclusion of it, and especially after he found out what I was running to originally.

Last Thursday I am stopped at a red light (in my super cool work tinted out Impala) at a perpendicular intersection, awaiting to turn right. On my left is a car stopped waiting to turn left. Coming from the left, over a block away I hear and see a firetruck, with lights and sirens coming towards us in one lane, and the township police SUV with every light and siren blazing.

My light turn green to go, and off course, I do not move so the emergency vehicles can pass. Idiot next to me pulls out and the firetruck almost killed her and the cop skids to a stop. She never slows or stops....she just keeps going like nothing! I knew they were responding to a entrapment/possible fatality and they took off. I hear radio tarffic the cop asks any other office to find her and stop her. Doing my part I stopped her, notified the locals and awaited their response. She was filled with piss and vineagr...and told me she heard nothing...saw nothing and was conversing with her son, aka a two year old in the back seat without a car seat. Locals came and hammered her....for once I was glad to be a witness.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

Hate to be the ******* but I'm in one of those moods I guess. Going 90 on an ice covered highway to get to a crash is about the dumbest thing I ever heard of. I guess he wanted a two-person fatal of his own.

Way back over there, when BIG was a victim of gun violence. BIG was placed in a squad and driven to the ER. Squads had blocked the ramps on and off the freeway, so as to allow the empeading of BIG's transport. Well, there was one vehicle which decided it wanted to do its own thing and ignore the lights and siren. There wasn't any hesitation on the part of the squad in front of the squad carrying BIG. It drove right into the back of said vehicle, pushed it off to the side onto the grass median and continued leading us to the ER.

If There wasn't such a hurry to get BIG into the capable hands of the hospitals trauma unit, he'd have loved to shake the hand of that officer.

He was lucky, it had nothing to do with his skill. He rolled the dice and lucked out. He should have been cited for that kind of carelessness. Again, just my 2 cents.

You may or may not have experience driving on ice, but going is much easier than stopping, but either way you are at the ice's mercy because the car will go where it wants it to.

BTW as for the original post, people are horrible. I think pretty much every time I go somewhere lights and sirens some idiot does this to me. It's like they expect me to go around them in the opposing lane of traffic. I purposely don't, even if it's clear, just to prove a point.
