I agree with Greg. There is mo reason to drive at high speeds on icy roads to get to a crash. NONE.
That is asking for a disaster. Have I driven fast on a cruiser ? Yes ! But when.the roads are clear and dry and traffic is light.

haha to be honest i probably will but not till summer, it's not even close to the most dangerous i've seen an officer drive when i'm with them. Off the top of my head i'd have to say the time i rode with one officer who took a marked 20mph turn at 85mph using his KNEES while he talked on the radio and used the KDT was one of the worst. Why he did not just have me do both of those is beyond me but that was the last time i rode with that particular officer. as an additional note, the 20mph turn was a hard right turn that had no shoulder on the right and a 30ft drop off with a weakened K-rail on the left side.
You're lucky to be alive.

haha...so i've been told by quite a few people! I always ride with the slightly 'out there' officers, very friendly but they can be a little crazy. Don't get me wrong though, soon as i get that feeling that they're gonna be a danger to me and others with their driving or actions i stop riding with them. With the Trooper i was with it was on a straight away on the highway, left side lane was pretty much clear of ice (right side lane was bad in comparison) which, aside from all the oblivious drivers in the right lane was another reason why we tried to stay in the left. I can't really fault him for that move but if it becomes a repeat kind of thing he does as habit and not a desperate move or slight miscalculation then i certainly won't be riding with him anymore!
And don't take them as role models either.

Worst I ever had was my first ride along. He was one of those officers Burnout described as "out there." We had just had a severe thunderstorm come through so everything was soaked, and it was still lightly raining. He then proceded to drive 120mph down the interstate. Was a great first experience!
As for the idiot drivers failing to yield, were plagued with them here. Officers rarely run code because everyone seems to lose their brain cells the instant they see the red and blues.

I know thats what i was gonna say..In the idiot drivers defense when i first got my license when i was 16 i remember a cop comin up on me like that and i pulled over to the left on the highway and he went on his speakers and said "always pull to the right of emergency vehicles".I think back an think wow thats a pretty good cop on his way to a call and also taught me how the hell to get out of the way of emergency cars cause i thouight i was the one being pulled over.
Good for you! I would have love to hear that conversation. "No, I'm not going to give you a ticket but I know someone who is. I just felt you did something bad enough that that I'm going to take 30 minutes out of my busy schedule to make sure you get your day in court. Wait there until someone can take our statements. The people you almost killed will be happy to make your acquaintence. Have a nice day."
