I was offered an early retirement buyout today which has been in the works for about 2 months . I accepted it and my.last official day will be Friday 12-31.
I started with this dept on March 10 , 1986. I started out driving a 1982 Dodge with half the horsepower of todays V6 cars. No cell phones. No computers , we used a typewriter ! Carried a Ruger revolver. Had.a 2 channel portable radio. I knew where all of the pay phones were because that's how we called in to dispatch. All reports were handwritten except the serious cases which the admin ladies typed for us. Evidence was logged in big books full of property sheets. The average citation was $27.50.
Things certainly have changed. I would do it all over again but now I have a good opportunity to move forward into a second career , one without all of the responsibility and demands that I have.
To those seeking a job in LE , I am glad to make room for you.
