    "They happen...."- NOT!

Take a look at the video......

    http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=4e2_1309977569

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While not looking to ridiculed...he asked for it when he said "they happen." After you watch this makes sense:

    1) They don't "just happen." Somebody does something to cause it. Its not like a cheap part failed or an act of God took place. YOU made it happen.

    2) "My training kicked in." Really? When you called mom and dad? When you called 911? When put a bandage over it? When you stopped the bleeding? What bleeding? You shot yourself in the fatty part of the leg...no arteries....minor bleeding! That is why you are there talking a few hours later. What training did you apply? Looks like self-preservation to me. If training kicked in, we would not have seen you try to get a shot off you were not ready to take and screw up relasing from the holster. In training, when we are shoing people, aka like you were with the video camera, we start slow, and build speed with repititions!

    3) To all you folks out there with every holster made to man. See what happens? Muscle memory. If you carry using a Serpa...train with the Serpa. If you train with the thumb drive...use that. I have said it before and will say it again as a firearms instructor. If you have different requirments for holsters, make sure they are all the same motion/release mechanism. My concealed duty holster, off-duty and tactical drop hoster are the same release.

I do give him credit for posting it though and man is he lucky!

I had to smile at the "my training kicked in".

During the time I worked, I can remember about 10 AD's by cops. Oddly enough, all but one was done by people who had reputations and prided themselves on their knowledge of firearms. Several were even firearm instructors. I always suspected that perhaps it's like riding a motorcycle. People generally don't crash while they're learning or if they don't ride that often. It becomes dangerous after they're "good at it" and gain too much confidence in their ability.

One guy was not only an instructor and had been for years, but had also been on our competitive marksmanship team. He like most of the other instructors I can think of, shot himself in the hand cleaning the famous unloaded gun. Another damn near died because he was in his basement cleaning his .45 and shot himself in the thigh, piercing the femoral artery. He didn't have a phone there and had to climb stairs to call 911. I guess in hindsight they were good instructors because they sure made me phobic about checking mine before I did anything to them!

The exception was a young officer who did it like this guy, he was playing fastdraw and shot himself in the foot. He was just an ordinary cop who I suspected had too many adult beverages, but I don't know that for sure.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Man, that's one bulky holster. You should think of getting a release for each holster so you don't have to lug the unused ones around. ;)

When somebody says "I shot my Kimber Pro Carry 2 1911 blah blah" instead of just saying "firearm," I believe he just wants people to think he's cool for having one, so I think "tool"

I don't see his reasoning as being valid either. Many units using a 1911 style weapon train to disengage their safety during the draw --- the key is that he shouldn't have had his finger on the trigger OR that he should have had better purchase on the grip when he disengaged it from the holster.

At any rate, start slow and build to you get faster. He went too fast for what he had worked his skill level to be, it's what happens when you cease practicing for competition/life and start showing off for the camera.

Nah I didn't like his "taking responsibility" by explaining away how he had practiced with this holster, then used that holster, and because of that had accidentally shot himself, lol.

Subtle, but I fixed it for ya... As I said before, the holster didn't pull the trigger.
