    Need AR-15 advice

Im looking to purchase a nice new AR15 but I have heard mixed reviews from a wide variety of experts and now it's coming down to the wire and Im still not 100% sure.

Im looking simply for something to take to the range and enjoy shooting. I've looked at a few different firearms:
    1. Smith&Wesson M&P Series
    2. Colt
    3. Sig Saur 516 Patrol

I just don't know exactly which one to go with, ANY advice would really be appreciated.

They sound expensive for just range plinking.

If it's not a combat rifle, it doesn't matter.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

You are basically saying you are going to buy a car to use once a week to go to teh grocery store and come home. With the brands you selected, that car is a Cadillac or Range Rover. As long as you are OK with that, any are fine.

    Are you new to shooting?

I am not new to shooting. I am a US Army Paratrooper and have competed in multiple shooting competitions but their all pistol. Never really got into the rifle game. Just looking for something to enjoy and made of good quality. Just cause im not bringing it into combat with me doesn't mean I want to buy a lower quality rifle to take to the range.

There are plenty of quality AR-15 rifles at way more reasonable prices than the ones you listed. Rock River, DPMS, Bushmaster, CMMG, and Stag all make good quality AR rifles. They are a milspec parts gun, and you don't need a $2000 gun for reliability and accuracy.

I highly recommend you give the Rock River lower a look. Their 2-stage trigger is every bit as good as (if not better than) most after-market triggers I know... and it is combat ready. Personally, mine is matched with a DPMS shorty upper.

I am not one to send anyone to another website, but you have a good familiarity with guns. You could very easily custom build your own gun, which will be: 1) cheap; 2) fun and 3) give you a great weapon with the best of everything.

You are intersted in the ar15......if you do a little internet hunting, you may just find a place called ar15.org, or .net or MAYBE EVEN .com. You can find a wealth of info and help in where the best parts are, cheapest place to buy them, and get help putting it together.

Howvere......don't take that as a "we don't want you here." Hang out and have fun with us.

OP, your posts are confusing to me. 1st you just want something to take to the range to go "plinking", then you want something that may or may not be combat-quality. Once you figure out what it is that your end goal is with the rifle, funds you have available to spend on one and shooting gear, you'll fine yourself honing in on one.

If your concern is "quality", pick the one with the longest warranty or get something from Bravo Company (if they ever get caught up with manufacturing their backorders).

I would like a high quality rifle. I'm gonna be using it to go to the range and have fun. But just because I am not using it down range doesn't mean I wanna buy a low quality rifle. I'm looking for something that's gonna last a long time and fire every time I pull the trigger.

I have a S&W 15-22 and it's probably good for what you want to do, target shooting and general playing around, and .22 rounds are hella cheap. Also you can attach basically everything you would on a real AR-15/M4 platform.

Why would you add on all the toys to a .22 when it is not the gun you would take to a gun fight? Fun for plinking, sure, but there is no way in hell I would put my Eotech, free floats, lights, grip and custom stock on a .22 that won't see daylight unless I am at a range. No need for the extras for a plinking gun, especially just a .22 in my opinion.

Some custom stocks are pink camo colored. 'Nuff said.
