    Question Which Is Better.....?

Ok so I've decided to get a gun because I don't feel safe. I live in a party house where my roommates do drugs (pot, shrooms, coke I THINK, and heroin) and I don't feel safe because none of the doors in the house close properly with the exception of the bathroom doors.

I'm a five foot-****-all (5 foot 2; pardon my language) woman living in a city full of freaks AND I have a stalker. Plainly put I just don't feel as safe as I used to. I know some self-defense but most of the people in this city outweigh me by at LEAST 100lbs and are taller than me. After a lot of thought I concluded that I wanted to get a gun for protection.

After a lot of searching I narrowed my choices down to a Browning Hi-Power Mark III 9mm and a Colt Commander 45 ACP. The Browning is nice because its rather simple to use and its only 2lbs. The colt is also nice because its slightly more well known. The downside to the colt is its a lil heavier than the Browning.

I would plan on getting a license that allowed me to carry my gun concealed on my person. It would probably be in a shoulder holster but I'd only wear it when I'm going to be out at night since thats when I feel most threatened. The rest of the time it would in the holster hanging above my headboard where it wouldn't be in the way.

My question is which one would be better for me? I can't decide which I like more so I'd like some help eliminating one since I can't afford both. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Telling some what kind of gun to buy is like telling them what kind of motor vehicle to get. It's all personal preference. Check and see if there are any public gun ranges in your area. Some will let you rent guns to shoot and that's the best way to find out what's comfortable.

It also depends on your familiarity with firearms. Semi-autos are fine machines that need to be kept clean and oiled to function. A revolver has fewer bullets in it, but can withstand a lot more neglect. You really have to screw up a revolver before it won't go boom. Semi-automatics are a lot more fussy.

You ask which would be better for you. It'd be better for you to get out of that house, before it's raided by the cops or a rip crew. It's either dead or in jail with either of those. Spend the gun money on moving, rent, then a firearm.

Both of the above are excellent posts. Also, think of this, if you don't trust your room mates due to their drug behavior, better get a couple really good locks on your door so they don't go in and take the gun.

Move out of the house. Getting a gun at this point will just give your drug-using roommates a reason to walk through your unlockable doors, steal it, and sell it for drug money.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm kinda in the process of looking for a new place right now. Housing is expensive though when you have a limit for rent prices :(

A gun in the " party house " will soon be stolen and traded for drugs.

    1. As others have said, MOVE.

    2. If you are not a shooter (ie gun nut) skip the BHP or 1911 platform.
You would be better served by a Glock or a Springfield XD type pistol.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.

Medium framed .38 or .357 magnum. Best thing going for a noob shooter.

    Also, God hates plastic guns.

I'm not unfamiliar with guns I just haven't had access to one in a few years (aka since I moved to the city). I've looked at all the guns that the shops here sell and the only ones that I liked were the Browning and the Colt. I'm not a huge fan of Glocks cause when I think of them I think of my thug ex-bf who is in a gang.

Hi all. Just thought I'd let y'all know that I moved out of my place in December and moved back to the small town I grew up in to be with my family I'm safe now but still want to get a gun because I enjoy going out for target practice with my cousins on my great-grandpa's farm though.

Glad you moved out. Norm makes a good point about revolvers- they aren't as hip as the super tactical semis out there but they are a good, reliable, affordable first gun. If you get a .357 you can also use .38s in there if you want to save on money or reduce kickback.

Ultimately talk to your family, try some out. Or get a recommendation for a good gun store... someplace where they'll help you find the gun that fits you, not their sale.

ANY gun is better than no gun. Even a .22 is nothing to cast off. Sure it isn't a .45 but I never meant anyone who was ok with standing still while I shot a them with my .32.

But a .38 cal revolver is a good standard gun that is very reliable. it is just that a .22 is easier to shoot for a beginner.

Get the Colt. You seem to be somewhat savy around firearms and the 1911 Platform. My other suggestion would be to have at least one small revolver or semi auto for discreet carry situations. You made the right decision to move, good luck to you.
