    Weapon light for Glock

I'm looking to add a weapon light to my Glock 21. I'll be switching to a Safariland 6365 "ALS" holster.

I'm a huge fan of Surefire, but Streamlight seems to be the industry standard.

I'd like to find a Surefire weapon light that isn't LED. I'm just not a fan of LED for L.E. work. They just don't have the throw that incandescent lights have.

    Suggestions???

Yeah, find out what fits in the 6365 ALS holster and buy that.

Also, you'll need to get your verification taken care of if you haven't gotten that started already. This forum doesn't allow people to claim LE status without doing so.

    Good luck!

Have you tried the newer LEDs? I would not buy anything else... for both my rifle and my handguns. I have blown enough incandescents over the years that there was not much of a decision to make once the LEDs started putting out some lumens.

I'd recommend either the SF X300 or X400 (if you ever do any shield work).

...also, as already mentioned, get verified or banning could follow. No one can use an LEO name or claim to be an LEO without verification. Also, an intro is in order too... it's not just polite, it is in the TOS.

I haven't checked out the LED weapon lights, no.

I was checking out a coworker's Streamlight Stinger DS, which has 160 lumens (compared to 115/135 for the Surefire & Streamlight's handgun lights respectively). Up close, it was similar to my Surefire G2. Up close, yes, the LED was brighter. But the Surefire held its beam and light outside of 30' a lot better though.

But, from everything I see, it looks like I'm stuck with LED for a handgun light.

And from what I see, the 6360-3832-61 holster will work for both Surefire & Streamlight lights.

EDIT: The blowing of the bulbs isn't something I took into consideration. That's a great point Switch. Thanks.

"Stuck" with LED? "Surefire held its beam and light outside of 30' a lot better..." How much do you know about lighting and weaponlights for handguns?

Before I go off (as I have a tendency to do) it sounds like you have almost zero knowledge. Not that it's bad as we all have to start somewhere, but you cannot compare handheld lights to pistol lights. Completely different mission and design. It's a weaponlight, not a primary illumination tool. You get more "wash" on a pistol light for a reason.

I was comparing two backup lights kept on the duty belt, not primary patrol lights or weapon lights.

You are correct. I know nothing about weapon lights. Which is why I'm here. Teach me, master. Teach me.

Oh, the master is not SgtSlaughter. Samuel is the man and I imagine he will be by before too long.

I will tell you that my knowledge of Streamlights is a bit dated. However, with that said, it seemed that the Surefire did a better job of focusing the light, so the reach was always pretty decent... and this is back when I was shopping for the X200.

I have an X300 on my Glock and an X400 on my rifle (It's too short to take much of anything else). I couldn't complain about either. They do what tehy are supposed to do and I am happy with their ability to reach out. I would even venture to say that they come real close (in terms of the way the light is focused) to my old 9volt Surefire M900.

Which glock? At Glock armorers class some officers were complaining about .40 cal models and the rail mounted lights interfering with the frame flex and causing misfeeds/jams. I've never seen it though and they didn't talk about which model light caused problems (or frequency). Anybody seen/heard this? Any frame/light combinations to avoid? Instructor seemed to acknowledge they had heard about it but didn't say much else.

I remember reading something about frame-flex and lights several years ago, possibly on glocktalk.com.

Cool. Went there and it seems it is still a topic. One thread pointed to streamlights website which talked about it. YMMV. Has anyone actually seen this?

This frame flex seems to be more of an urban myth than anything else. There seem to be a few who have "heard of it happening", but no one who can substaniate it.

I've carried a Glock with a frame-mounted light for more than 11 years (since the Insight came out). iI ve had them on my G31 and G22, shooting more than an average shooter, and i have never had any problems.

I'm a firearms instructor in a large federal agency that issues Glock 22s (and where weapon-mounted lights are common) and I have yet to hear of any issues.

I'd like to see proof. Regardless, I won't carry a duty weapon without a light attached.
