Rest in peace.
The NYSP transisioned to the 45 GAP from their G-17's several years ago. They appear to be quite happy with them after several shootings with the expected results for the perp. The round itself has not "taken off" with the everyday shooter, so ammo remains expensive as does availability compared to other rounds.
Starting a discussion requires asking a question or opinion. You made a statement/mini-lecture. Maybe if you ended with "Any thoughts or opinions on such?" or "Any of you have any experience with such?" you might not have got two long time board members questioning your post.

The 45 GAP is a round searching for a problem.
Actually it has its place. The boss carried a Glock in
this round for a while. I was very impressed when I shot
the gun. It allows for a 45 caliber sized round in a 9/40
caliber frame gun.
The biggest drawback was the price of ammo. All of
the ammo for the boss I bought online. It was just
that much cheaper. The county next to us, used them
for a couple of years and traded them off. When I asked
the undersheriff about it, he gave the same reason.
It was just cheaper to shoot 9mm or 40 cal.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL
NYSP has just recently from what I am told started to talk about switching to another round due to Ammo being expensive and also hard to come by. The gun it self holds 10 roundsper mag and to me feels heavy. I am a glock fan ( I have 7 of them ) but just don't care for this one.

Marketing. So many claims to superior performance thru sales and marketing. Sort of like elections....??
At the user end, an expensive gun with ammo that is twice the cost, if you can find it. I worked awhile in a local pawn and gun shop. Customer would want to order the latest from the slick news-stand gun press. Show them the difference in price of a standard 270 Winchester and the 270 "Short Hyper Magnum", usually won out. Next was the question; if your airline or outfitter loses your ammo, the local hardware in Podunk doesnt stock any, what's next? Wholesalers are closing out these "super, short, hyper, ..." models. We lost a few sales but kept happier customers. The 45 GAP has little to offer to replace 100 years of 45 acp. The 17 rimfires seem to be going to the "closeout" pages too.
