Why are HK pistols sooooo unpopular in the police???

Don't say it is because it is expensive....

Sig 22x series are extremly expensive too but there are many police departments in the US where SIG 22x series are their duty weapons.

But I have barely seen departments in the US where they use the USP or P2000 besides Maine and Washington state police. Why are HK's pistols so unpopular among the police deparments in America although HK's MP5 is very popular and the SIG pistols are also expensive too?

Compared to Glock pistols, everything else is expensive. H&K pistols used to be a big name in law enforcement, but not so much anymore. Many manufacturers have stepped up to the plate and put out great products.

FYI - the MP5 isn't as popular as it used to be eaither. It hasn't been very popular for about 10 years or so. The AR platform is taking up the current market for anything that's not a shotgun or pistol. Hell, they're taking over shotguns in MOST of the country, now.

I've heard a lot of customer service horror stories too.

But I still love my USP 45 Compact

We have Sigs, and even if you only save $100 to $150 on each pistol by choosing a Sig over and H&K, that still adds up.

Customer service for HK is fairly good for LE. The only time I have heard bad things about it is when it applied to non-LE.

...and, Ogame, as in so many other posts of yours, you are just off-base. HKs are still fairly popular in LE. It would just take a little research to know that.

    I have had a compact USP - 9mm in the mid-90's. I liked it but it wasn't my favorite - traded it for a 6.5mm steyr-mannlicher.

I think its a love hate thing. I was able to shoot a 9mm H&K p2000 that a friend had. I had been shooting a 40 cal Glock. 40 Springfield and a 45 Springfield at the rang. That 9mm had more felt recoil than any of the other guns. I had been watching them shoot and thought they were limp wristing it. Then I shot it and gained an instant dislike. That and I dislike the mag release.

It's more like 60,000 Now. a year ago I think we were at just about 52,000 but I know we've hired a bunch since and I know BP hired a few as well. Air and Marine Interdiction is issued 2, a P2000 and a P2000SK. I think CBP all together purchased something in the area of 75,000 guns.

I love my P2000. It took a little getting used to as the trigger and sights are very different than the Glock's we carried (for the record I am NOT a fan of Glock...) but after a little practice I got back to my 20rnds through one hole shooting I was lucky as I transitioned pistols in FI school at Fort Benning so we shot like 4 hours a day for 2 weeks which helped. The only H&K gun I'm not a fan of is the UMP. It's an OK subgun but no where NEAR the quality of the MP5's. I'd rather have gone with the MP5/40 over the UMP40. But, they're still fun to shoot and we really don't use them at all anyway

It is partly price, they are about the same as Sig's but for my agency we went from Glock at $300 a gun to the P2000 at $600 a gun so it is quite a bit more expensive and a lot of departments won't justify the cost. Personally I'll take a Sig or H&K anyday. Another part is dealing with H&K isn't a fun thing to do, although neither is Glock. The Sig is a much more customer friendly company. I'm in the process of bidding some automatic rifles for a local PD's SWAT team and they wanted the H&K 416 but it's like pulling teeth on a dragon to deal with them and even then the soonest they'll have the guns to the department is like 9 to 12 months. So we basically talked them into going with LWRC who makes just as good of quality and can have the guns to me in 45 days. Glock and H&K are both so big now that they look down their noses at the Americans and take as long as they darn well please to do things. It's kind of like thier so popular they know people will buy from them no matter how bad they are... just to have the name! Although I know a lot of departments that are switching from subguns to M4 style rifles for entry and SRT stuff so H&K may not be so cocky when they stop selling so many MP5's! The LWRC's I quoted for the department are cheaper than the 416, are piston driven and 10" bbl's with quad rails. Super nice american made guns!
