A Taurus is close to being as good as a S & W. Close enough that unless you are a gun fanatic...it doesn't matter one bit. You just want a gun that shoots at close range.

I have a Taurus 651 .357 with the shrouded hammer (as good as a hammerless, but with the ability to **** it like an open hammer firearm). I love it. It is small, concealable, and shoots great. I have the option to fire either .357 or .38's out of it as well.
I have a friend with a S&W hammerless .357 about the same size and neither of us can tell the difference (accept that his is the AirLight so much lighter, but you can a light weight version of the 650 and 651 as well but you will pay a couple hundred more for it). My friend likes mine a lot because I still have a cockable hammer.
Point being, there is very little difference other than price. And I am really happy with mine.
