I am thinking of becoming a LE Officer, and I wanted to know the law, or rules reguarding bringing your own firearm. Is there some list of apporved firearms that you can bring on patrol with you? Help me out here.

It all depends on the individual department.

Check with the one you are interested in.

My agency issues the .40 cal Glock, but you can carry a plethora of models, of your own purchase, if they are on the authorized list, and have to qualify with them.

Yes, my department has a list with approved firearms on it. There is only one firearm on the list.

The department issues you the firearm and you have zero choice in the matter.
