    this is kinda gun related

    if you consider pellet guns...well...guns....

I need to buy a pellet gun to take care of a couple of skunks. I can't use a real gun because I'm within city limits. I need some thoughts on where I can get one cheap and the fps I should be looking at. Would 1000fps cut it?

I could come by with my suppressed Ruger 10/22 for a reasonable fee.

1000fps will do the job. Especially with pointed .177 pellets.

Just pick up one of the side-cocking cheap Chinese ones. Accurate enough for headshots and it cost $39. I don't know the velocity, but it'll knock a squirrrel right off the bird feeder.:D.

Right you are sir. I have one and I was surprised at how powerful it was. I got it from one of the roaming tool shows for $19.:D

I used to dispatch squirrels that were destroying our shed with a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with buckshot when I was growing up. Didn't ever dispatch anything with a BB Gun.

Only used a BB gun on stray dogs to get them off the property. Worked wonders.

Yes, make sure you get the hunting pellets.... but in my neck of the woods, being in a city, the ordinance also covers bb/pellet guns... not that I've gotten any grief over taking 20 or so squirrels out that have managed to nest in my attic.... My neighbor has taken 58 so far this year... and there's still plenty in the trees, just saw one run over down the street....

I have a new roof going in next week should cure some of the trouble...

I've been thinking about getting one as well. Are the Crossman ones from Wal-Mart any good? Also, what's with the "dual-caliber" barrels I saw on one model?

Do they have any CO2 powered rifles, or are they all pump? Also, is it wise to use a rifle inside the house, shooting at a trap, or should I only use the 1000 FPS stuff outside (citing minimum recommended distance)?

Aside from the "Red Ryder" types, I wouldn't use a pump rifle in the house. You could pump it 1 or 3 times and it would be fine, but it wouldn't be accurate, IMHO. You might have more fun with an Airsoft using it in the house on a trap, but I haven't seen one of those that was very accurate, either.

When I was a young 'un, I won a Daisy Target rifle in a contest that came with a trap, etc, but we had no garage. I spent many a summers day in my early teens popping that trap in the un a/c'd half attic of that house in southern SC. It was more along the lines of a RR, but it was much heavier, had an interchangeable ring post sight and would only hold 50 bbs at a time in a long tube that had to be loaded one at a time.

Shortly after moving into this house I am in now, we were dealing with a Palmetto Bug invasion (big nasty lookin' Roaches) that the prior owners had tolerated. Out of idiocy, I fired on a Roach on the wall inside of my garage, using a pump rifle but forgetting that I had pumped it to the max. I took out the roach, the sheetrock, the styrofoam, the housewrap and the vinyl on the exterior and never did find all of the pieces of the vinyl. I covered the hole with a map.:p

I've never seen a CO2 rifle in Wallyworld. I did buy a nice CO2 pellet pistol with 2 magazines that will take out a squirrel at 25 yards there, though.

Now that I've had my Lasik, I need to go sight in my Crosman pump dot scope again, come to think of it. ;)

No lie! I had just got home and was walking to the front porch when a skunk went running off of the porch and towards the trees. I latter found out he was eating the dog food my kids put there for the cats. Out of pure reflex (and cat like speed) I drew my HK and fired. The first round took off his leg and the second caught him in the head. Boy was that a mistake. He was about 50 feet from me but only 25 from the corner of the house.

Lets just say that when I walked inside all my wife said while holding her nose was "Dumbass".

I thought about that and came to the conclusion that with how often they spray and the 2 cats and dog that I have, I figure that I can deal with a week of stench to be done with it. Can't think of a cheaper option.

I'll just have to time it so I take em out when I go away for the weekend.
