I think I will be leaving my $2000 gun at home from now on anyways. This place is so damn slow, I've been waiting for nearly 4 weeks on a CLEO signature on a Form-1, and I live and work in the same city as the CLEO...... I would most likely never see my rifle again if I had to discharge it on duty.

Okay, physics aside, I can get a barrel length of less than 16 inches. It doens't matter why....maybe I just want it...and yes size does matter. However, if I seperate from the department my gun stays with it.....let me rephrase that......the barrel stays with the department. A new upper (or longer barrel) can be ordered and I can take my rifle home.

ask your local ffl and batf folks. also, someone mentioned private ownership of full autos, look at manufacture date. by the way, whats going on with supreme court and the "proposed" weapon ban?

The barrel is not registered as an SBR, it's the lower receiver. If the department owns the SBR it has to stay with them. If you register it yourself, it goes with you.

I agree with you. Using that reasoning, I can by the lower, stick a.....5 inch barrel (for argument sake) in it and be good, eventhough it came with a 16 inch barrel. Then if I leave the deptartment, they keep the 5 incher and I'm good?

It depends how you want to go-about-it. If you register the lower as an SBR under your name, you keep the rifle including the barrel when you leave because its yours.

If THEY buy the lower, it's regged as an SBR through the agency, the gun belongs to them, the lower, the upper etc.

Ok, I finally bought my rifle. Let me rephrase that...I paid for it. Rock River still has to build it. I was told it was going ot take 18 weeks. <sigh>. I am getting no optics on it only the flip up sights. I think eventually I would like to get optics...preferably the Eotech 512. But, now I am worried that the Eotech will not fit on the flaptop because of the beveled rail. The length of that particular model of Eotech may be too long. The reason why I want that model of Eotech is because 1) I don't intend to use NVG, so this model costs less. 2) It uses AAA batteries which dim instead of instantly turn off.

Oh yeah, barrel is 16.something inches long.

Yo' DUDE, minimise your pics when you post them... parts of your text run off of the right side of the screen when you dont. I can't tell what AAA batteries have to do with your rifle or what you were told before the <sigh>.

Valor (and others) have posted a beautifully illustrated and referenced tutorial here:

    Thank You very much ;)

    Nice looking rifle, though

    Much nicer.

    Thank You very much.

Now I know what AAA batteries have to do with your rifle. & I am sorry you won't have it for 18 weeks, but on the positive side, that means a lot of people are taking advantage of their Bill of Rights... while they can :D

My old AR (Colt 9mm SMG) had the 10.5 inch barrel. My new one Rock River LAR-15 has the 14 inch barrel. My personal Colt AR, that I recently sold, had a 16 inch barrel. While I could see going through all the federal SBR red tape for the shorty barrel, I couldn't see doing it just to have a two inch shorter barrel (I didn't even believe my RRA had a shorter barrel than my personal Colt until I stood them up next to each other).

Nice choice! I Have a RRA lower waiting to be FORM-1'ed ( when I can mail the completed packet without the 200$ check bouncing ) for a 9mm. RRA makes a real nice rifle and I wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone else to use them. The A4 Upper is best since you can always use a carry handle sight system if you need to save up for the optics.
