    Shooting/Range Question?

Does this sound weird? Does anyone else do this?

Shoot a hand gun with your left hand but shoot a shot gun with your right hand?

I worked at an indoor range/gun store for about 3 years. No, this is not entirely unheard of. I had seen maybe 7 or 8 people that shoot like that, but I don't remember any of them being LEOs.

I am the opposite- handgun with my right hand, and long gun with my left. I am a right hander, but am left eye dominant and quasi ambidextrous (I can shoot a rifle or shotgun with both hands comfortably, although it is a little harder with a handgun.)

I saw a guy duck hunt on tv shooting right handed with his left eye. Figure that one out. He had a bad right eye. And he was still hitting more ducks than i can.

I have known plenty of people who were right or left eye dominant and their strond hand was the opposite. They still shot a handgun with their strong hand and rotated their head to get their dominant eye over the sight, but that method does not work with a long gun thus they have to shoot weak side to place the sight with their dominant eye. I have worked with a few marines and leo's who had this problem. Most of them actually shot better once they got comfortable shooting weak hand with a pistol and didn't have to tweak their head to see the sight.

I'm left eye dominant and a right handed shooter. Never had a problem with it except with scopes, I have to force myself to use my right eye with a scope

I'm left-eye dominant with a right-hand strong side. I grew up shooting left-handed. I tried switching to my right hand for handguns last year, but gave up because I have too many habits built up.

I am left handed but right eye dominant, I was taught to shoot long barrelled weapons with my right side but after qualifying swapped to my left as it was easier, it was strange at first but muscle memory kicks in.

I knew a guy in the Royal Military Police that was a lefty and fired his pistol left-handed, but was forced to fire his rifle right-handed (so the charging handle wouldn't rip his face off).

The world famous SA80 (L85/L85A1). The L85/L85A1's right-handed ejection port and reciprocating bolt handle make the rifle impossible to fire from the left shoulder, as in a normal firing position these parts would rest against the side of the firer's left cheek. Yeah, I could see that being a problem. As a lefty myself I hate bullpup rifles just because I can't use one.

Yeah, it's a bad design for us lefties.

I used to hate shooting the M-60. That feed tray cover latch was just in the wrong place for a lefty.
