There is no thumb safety on the XDs or XDms.

Did you mean the grip safety?

Take a look at the news XDms. I will be getting one of these in the next month. I love Glocks and love XDs but the XDM just feels "Right". It fits my hands perfectly and feels good when firing.

I haven't seen one in person, but someone somewhere posted a link to a photo of a new XD with a thumb safety... supposedly to compete for the military market. I just saw it within the last week I think.

to say, I have changed my mind since my first post.
I am now carry a XD 45 Tac Model for a duty weapon.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL

I never liked the Glock, as I don't believe you can get a clean trigger pull with a two-stage trigger. That said, they work, and they sure are popular.

I'm kinda out of touch anyway, I carried a Colt Mk 4 Series 80 .45 ACP in uniform, and a Star PD in .45 ACP in civvies. Most departments won't allow "cocked and locked" so those probably aren't even an option for you.

There is no comparison. They are different designs and ergonomics with different features for different preferences in how a gun should be made.

I purchased my XD 40 about 6 months ago slightly use for less that $400 out the door with the XD package. It came with 2 Hi-cap mags, holster, mag holder, speed loader, brush and carrying case. Since then I have put over 1500 rounds through it without any ploblems AT ALL, no FTF, FTE stovepipes nothing. It eats anything I put throught it. I typically use Federal FMJ from Wally world that i get for less than $40/box, and typically they stock 50 or more boxes at all time (another reason I got the 40, that and I wanted the extra firepower). Its by far my favorite gun, I love it more than my nickle DE (Desert Eagle) just by a hair. That to is an amazing gun that i got for a steal at cabella's for under $900 in like new condition. Anyways back to the debate. My cousin ans shootin partner wanter a Glock soo bad and finally got one when he got enough saved up $650 for a .45 with the FTF. needless to say i enjoy shooting his guns (he also has an H&K 9MM) great gun but he would never buy another gun from gander mtn. He loves that glock and so do I but he has way more fun shooting my XD hands down. Not to say he regrets getting it over an XD but the XD 45 or XDM are next on his list. In his opinion shooting both quite often the XD is a Glock but better. They took the best from Glock and brought it into the the new decade, and added some great new features. Mine has no manual saftiesm just the passive one yet I still feel very safe carryng it on a daily basis. it is so super accurate right outta the box its scary. The only gripe I have is about the sites, they are adequate, but I perfer the standard siglite night sites that came on my very reasonably priced (new $425)German made SIG P250. Mu DE has ajustable sights and is deadeye ****, and is easily my most accurate gun, but then again it has a 4

I recently purchased a Springfield XD Tactical 9mm. I've never fired or even held a Glock, but I love the Springfield. You can't fire the Springfield without depressing the handle safety, which is only one of three safety features on the weapon, but that doesn't detract one bit from firing it. I did a lot of research before I bought my handgun and found the Springfield highly recommended, but it was not until I fired one that I was sold. I'm a Viet Nam vet and had not fired a weapon since the war. I fired 50 rounds my first time with the Springfield and had only 3 misses at twenty five yards after more than 30 years since I'd last fired a weapon of any kind. The Tactical has a 5" barrel, so it's not for concealed carry, but the sub-compact takes care of that problem and has almost the same feel at the Tactical. I'm about to purchase a .40 and I'm researching the Glock, but it's highly likely that I'll get the Springfield XDM. I had a lot of experience with weapons as a kid and in the military, but no experience at all for a very long time. I'm sure the Glock is a fine weapon, but from what I've read about the Springfield and from my personal experience, I don't thing you can go wrong with it. It's a pleasure to shoot, it breaks down easily and it hits where you point it.

Springfield armory is a better company in my opinion. They have a lifetime warranty and if a gun malfunctions they quickly take care of you. A friend sent in a 1911 to get a safety that had fallen off refitted and they sent him a free magazine and paid shipping both ways. They stand behind their product.

Also, The XD fits me better. The grip angle is more confortable, and it has no finger grooves. Finger grooves are never the right size for me. Not a fan of the grip safety though. XD sights are better stock but odds are id upgrade to night sights anyway.

While I love my XD's, Taurus as well as others have the same warranty. However, Springfield has a long, Historied and respected Reputation.
