    HK USP Compact .45

O.K. not trying to bring up an old thread, but I too, like jmill was, am considering purchasing this gun. I shot a full size .40 last weekend and loved it. I thought it was one of the smoothest guns I have ever shot. However this particular model, from what I know has the recoil reduction. So my question is....

Does anyone know if the H&K compact models have the same recoil reduction system? I have looked high and low and have not found any information on the subject.

Also if anyone does own this gun, I would like to know roughly what you paid, however take into mind that I am a civilian.

And......how you feel it rates with the full size model .40. I know that, from my experience, when you go with a compact size gun, recoil is usually greater, however I think full size is out of the question for me, due to small hands.

Thanks in advance for any replys.

The HK USP Compact does have the recoil reduction buffer.

Brand new these things are expensive. $750+. The full size might be a little bit cheaper depending on the options you get (Stainless slide, night sights). Used you can get them for $500 - (usually $550 at least)

I actually use to have an HK USP Compact in 40 but it was the LEM model. Meaning the trigger was set up as a Glock's. Same trig pull each time you press it. The standard USP Var. 1 has a DA first shot (which I did not care for) and SA shots after that (which is pretty good). I found it hard (since I have trained w/Glocks and SA type guns (1911's P7M8) all my life) to get over that first DA pull. I could do it but I wasn't fast enough.

I prefer the compact model over the full size. (I had both) and to ME I found little recoil difference. The USP is a very blocky gun but it is a very high quality tool.

My carry gun is an HK P7M8 which is an incredible piece. But that's another story ;)

Thank you very much for your reply, I wasn't sure anyone was going to.

I pulled consumers prices yesterday, and I came up with a higher number than that. But it had the night sights figured in also.

Can I as a civilian get the same trigger pull option on this gun? As I too have a Sig, that is Long DA pull, and Short SA pull, and I hate it. It make me very slow, but it is the only safety that the gun has.

Also do you know if I can it with out the safety? I have been told that they make it both ways, but did not see anything on the web site to vindicate that.

Hey Talia, you should be able to get that HK LEM but you might have to special order it since its not very popular (yet). Night sights are a must for a carry gun but I mean if you can not afford them then get them later. At least you have a gun to carry.

I actually found the SIG's DA trig a bit better than an HK USP's DA trig (I owned a 229, 225, 220, 245 - sold them all :( ). Sigs seem smoother on the first shot. Not a bad company either.

Yes on the HK USP without saftey. I forgot what VAR # it is but a gunsmith w/the HK parts can turn the saftey lever into a "decocker only". So it works like a SIG. My compact was set up in that fasion before I sold it. And speaking of price the store where I sold it (I know them all) are selling it for $549.99 used. So you should be able to find one around that price used. Brand new I *think* I paid $850 + tax w/night sights.

When do you think you are going to buy it?

    OOOPS!

Hey Talia, u know what. I don't know why but I just realized you are looking for a .45acp version of the USP. Yes they are a bit more money. I owned a full size and compact in .40

I did have a Full Size 45 in stainless (the compact 45 isn't that compact to me) for a short while. But never shot the compact version. Sorry.....

Hey thanks again. But you know what the last time I bought a gun, I said F~IT, I will get the sights later, and to this day I never have. Pretty stupid of me, I know. So this time no matter how much more it is gonna be, I am getting the sights.

Also I have a Sig Pro 2340. It has a horrible DA Pull. Trust me, I used to think that it was just me, but I have had other experienced shooters try it and they say that it needs to be adjusted too.

Also in comparing my Sig .40 to the Compact H&K .40, yeah it is a little smaller, less protrusion of the hammer, and the barrel is even smaller.

I am thinking of buying this mid summer, after my car insurance company has raped me, and my cute little private school has had their way with me on tuition. I can't wait.

So in reading your last reply, does this mean that they don't have the recoil reduction system on the Compact versions? That is what I was really concerned with. If I can get it with out a safety, and with the same trigger pull every time, I am going to be a happy, happy woman!

The compact usp .45 still has the recoil buffer system.

Is there any gun stores around you that you can go to that carries the HK USP Compact 45? I'm sure they will be glad to show you the ins/outs of it. Heck if you lived near me (I'm in CT so...) I'd be happy to show you everything about the USP. I became friends with the owner of the gunstore I shop at and he pretty much hooks me up. They would give you a deal. Now I'm not totally sure if you can get the LEM version in .45acp. I think it was only offered for the compact .40cal version. But you can still get the "decock only" thing done.

The best thing to do is try to find somone that has one and give it a try.

I hear ya on bills. I have a huge student loan from a private college I went to 5 yrs ago. aw well that's life  nothing you can do about car insurance, u need it....money sux.

I've never tried the SIG Pro line. But then again, no one ever raved about them. Good luck in your search!

I am going to see if one of my hookups can get me a good deal. I may even have a friend in LE buy it for me. I also have a range that I go to, but I haven't the money for that lately either. LOL. I will let you know how it goes.

    Thanks again.

    USP Compact 45

Good choice. Try renting one at an indoor range. Grip size is important and being able to reach the slide release and decocker is also a consideration.

I never really thought of this one when I purchased my first gun, but magazine release. As it is now, I have to turn my gun towards me to get enough leverage to release the magazine. So that will be a very important factor in my next purchase. However I have never had a problem with slide release and decocker. Thanks for the reply though.

    USP Compact recoil

The manual with my pistol says this "To reduce the size of the slide on the USP Compact, the mechanical recoil system found on the large frame USPs has been eliminated, replaced by a specially designed flat compression spring contained in the captive recoil spring assembly by an absorber bushing made of high strength polymer."

We carry the USP 40 at the jail I work in. I qualified on the full size first. Then I drew a compact on the CERT. They seem to handle the same to me.

I liked the gun well enough to pick up the USP 45 compact at my own expense for concealed carry. Now I may retire my service pistol on my second job and switch in my new H&K. I got it with night sights for about $900.

I wanted decock only like my personal service gun. I didn't want to get a special order, which apparently, most of the variants are. The smith I use only had the safety/decock model on hand. I took the gun in stock. I like the safety feature now. It actually allows you to carry the gun cocked and locked.

Dang, you guys have high gun costs. Here at gun shows, the USP compacts can be had, new, for $550.00 sometimes a little less.
