    Springfield Armory XD-40 for duty?

Anybody carrying the new XD-40 as a duty piece? I did a search and found a few threads where people were discussing them, but didn't see anyone mentioning actually carrying one on duty.

I just picked one up the other day since I've never been a Glock fan, have always been a 1911 fan, and this seemed to be the best of both worlds. I was originally looking at the G23 due to it's size, but when I found this one it was love at first sight. I'll be using it for duty, as well as concealed carry off-duty and was just wondering if anyone else was using it who could give any advice as to things to enhance comfortability and reliability or knew of any potential problems to be on the lookout for.

We have several guys here that carry the XD as duty weapons and only one has had problems with it. The recoil spring over ran the guide rod. Apparently a bad batch of springs that has since been fixed according to Springfield.

All I know is that every single review I have read has been very positive. I have only shot a few different guns , but I shot the best with the XD9. It also felt the best in my smaller sized hands (but I have a size 12 shoe!).

I have an XD-9 and love it, can't carry it for duty carry though :( Also just as an FYI, Lasermax now makes the internal laser sights for the XD series if anyone is looking for a new toy !!!!

I used to have an XD-40 and an XD-9, but I'm not allowed to carry them on duty, so I had to trade them in. They were both good guns, I never had a malfunction with either of them. They were far less picky about the ammo I put through them than my Sig P226 is.

Best of both worlds  Its not a .45, and its not a 1911. The trigger is better than a Glock, but still its not a 1911.

Just playing.....The XD is a fine weapon. All you need is good night sites.

Yeah yeah... ;-p I would have rather had a .45, but they only offer it in the .45 GAP and I hesitate to jump on a new cartridge until it's tried, proven, and shows that it'll be around longer than a fad cartridge.

I'd happily carry my 1911 if they'd let me. Unfortunately, LAPD SWAT, our military, and hundreds of other agencies must know nothing about guns since they're still carrying those awful single-action autoloaders.

the .45GAP, 'has' matched or outperformed the .45ACP in all tests done with it, as far as I know. I don't have either: just parroting what the experts have been saying.

btw if I had the buying power I'd get at least one of everything :D

There are currently only 2 manufacturers, that I know of, that are chambering the GAP.

That is hardly "proven", nor would it lend confidence that it is more than a fad round.

And "tests" performed by gun rag writers mean squat in the real world. The GAP has matched nothing in real world shootings. I would need to see at least 5 years of actual shooting data before I would trust my life with a new cartridge.

    But thats just me.

besides Glock, who's the other one? If it has to be around for nearly 100 years so be it.

Springlield makes the XD in .45 GAP. They have a neat little package that includes a holster and box of 50 rounds.

Springfield also makes a 1911 style in the GAP; although, I have yet to see one.

Don't think it's been released yet. The 3" GI-45 Micro is supposed to be available in GAP sometime this year, but it hasn't been released yet according to their website.
