    Best mags for AR-15???

I recently bought a slightly used Bushmaster AR-15 from a friend of mine. He gave me 2 mags for it-a Bushamster 10-rnd mag, & a FN 30-rnd mag. Both mags gave me problems chambering the 1st round when I was firing it at the range today. Otherwise, it shot fairly well. I tend to think the problem is magazine-related, since I could play with the magazine while it was in the weapon sometimes & the round would chamber without a problem. Also, if I didn't load the mags to max capacity, they seemed to do alright. Anyone have any suggestions?

IMO, NEVER load a 30 round mag with 30 rounds. It's just asking for a problem. I never load more than 29, even in my days back in the military.

I totally agree with not loading to capacity. We were taught in our urban rifle course to only put 28 in a 30 rd. magazine.

I purchased a bunch of military syrplus mags. Only one was junk, the rest are still functioning flawlessly. I ended up loaning out some during the course because the brand new ones were having feed problems.

USGI are the only way to go as far as I have heard. I have 4 Orlite s for my Bushy m-4 and havent had a problem with them yet either but i hve heard they dont hold up to well under extreme conditions.
A great resource of info about the ar-15 can be found at www.ar15.com they have all kinds of mag help and faq's.

as Jmil said, the USGI are THE ONLY WAY TO GO. Buy a couple and get a few of the new GREEN followers so you can swap out. I keep my AR-15 in my safe along with two 30 round clips (with 27 in them)

Thanks for the info guys. I did stop loading the mags to max capacity after a couple of runs with them. There was a guy at the range when I was there who was talking about the Orlite mags, I think it was....also mentioned they were good, just didn't hold up to heat too well;) Guess the lesson there is to not leave them out if you don't have to.

i think that is a common principle associated with the military, i never load my mags to capasity, 27-28 that is it, even with my pistol i always leave room for one, well technically two if you have one in the chammber

I prefer the 20 round GI mags, they are not as long as the 20 rounders. I have had good luck with the black orlite mags, I believe Canada and Israel were the big users of the Orlite magazines. Cheap after-market magazines are just that, cheap and usually quit working when you try to load them. Never had a problem using GI mgazines. Just keep them clean. Do not use WD-40 around magazines or ammo. The compound in WD-40 can seep into primers and cause ammo to misfire.
