    Finally...the perfect rifle.

Springfield Scout Squad (I'd prefer the SOCOM for this) and the McMillan MFS-14 stock. Perfection.

With that short of a barrel id rather have it in a .223. Ill take a HK G36k. To go along with what DC LAW said, I absolutely love the M14... in full length form. Im glad the Navy still uses them. Now only if I could take it home...

Ya'll are missing the point. My concept for the "perfect rifle" if you will,is one in a hard hitting caliber (.308) wrapped up in a small package. With that weapon system I could use it in a CQB environment with TAP ammo, but turn around and still engage targets out to 600 yards or better. If I wanted a true distance weapon,I'd be firing my custom bolt gun. So....chop the barrel down, throw on some rails and a rugged folding stock, and you have the best of all the worlds in one nifty little package. It is adaptable to many different situations, accurate, fairly easy to carry, and hi capacity. Now how can it get any better than that?

The long distance range I go to usually has about 3 Garands and 30 M1A's. They are superb weapons. My friend just got a national match M1A and his group got about 30% tighter. Now if I can just find the money to buy one...

Wow, I really like that! This is the first good-looking pistol-gripped M1A that I have seen. Most are just plain ugly.

The Israeli Galiel has a stump version out now. Pretty sweet.
I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, killed many men and loved only one woman with a passion a flea like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. Now, go home, boy!

Still nice.......but my own personal opinion is the rails are too bulky.

I hear that; most of them would have to have rail covers.

While I like the Scout model, the socom just isnt for me.

    However, I would settle for an H&K 91. :D
