Just finished my app with the Bureau of Prisons...

... Any idea when I will be hearing from them? The anouncement on USAJobs states that the opening closes on 2/24/12, so i figure that it will be at some time after that date. Does anyone have a ballpark estimate?

    Pardon my being so impatient!

Perhaps not just the wait time for BOP, but federal LE jobs in general?

This is my first federal job I've applied for, and my first LE job at that!

Your wait depends upon which facility you applied to. Also keep in mind that hiring within the federal government has become very tight, with it likely to get worse in the future.

I had the choice to choose up to 4 duty locations. My first two were Mendota FCI and Dublin FCI. Mendota is a new prison that, if I remember correctly, just recently opened or is opening very soon. Dublin is in the next town over from me, so I chose that location hoping that I may not have to relocate. Last two choices were any location in CA and any location in US.

Mendota FCI offers a 17% pay incentive and Dublin FCI offers a 15% pay incentive for those who qualify.

It can be a while. It can take up to 2 months depending on how many applications they get and the process they go through.

I applied nearly a year ago but have yet to hear anything. But I'm from Pennsylvania, so the closest ones to me are places like FCI Cumberland in MD and FCI Beckley and FCI Morgantwon down in West Virginia. I know that at least one of those is a fenceless, minimum security place, so maybe they don't have a lot of turnover. I really don't know anything--just speculating.

Long time since anyone has posted on this thread but I waited for over a year....the Gov process just takes a while. USP's and prisons in CA are always hiring...
