    Diplomatic Security

Anybody familiar with the Department of States's Diplomatic Security (Diplomatic Security Specialist)? Is it impractical to seek this job fresh out of college. I've looked over their basic requirements and it says that military/leo experience is a plus but not necessary. Would I have a chance at this job with out any of the experience? I know very little about this job so any information would be great!

I've known several former DS agents (several from the 1811 agency I used to work for), none of whom were recent college grads without other experience prior to working there. However, with that said, hiring trends change over time and the only way to ensure you don't get hired is to not apply.

If you apply, be sure you read up on current global events and do a search of "BEX" and "Board of Examiners" on this site and 911jobforums.com, as that is DS' panel interview and is the biggest screening portion of their hiring process.

I applied numerous times as I neared graduation. Never got a call. Applied again when I was NYPD...got the call.

For what it's worth, I had two recent college graduates in my BSAC class. However the rest were very high speed, low drag former military, law enforcement and professionals.

All the ones I have met were former military and or former cops. Most also had some college so it seems like it is a very cut throat experienced talent pool for that position.

As a former coworker of mine, I can verify that FedLeo speaks with authority on this, and is a former DS agent.
