    US Marshals FY 2012 hiring

    Hi everyone,

As I am currently going through the CSCEP (co-op) process with the US Marshals, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who may have information on what the upcoming hiring situation may look like for the agency.

I read on another site that there are not going to be any Basic DUSM training classes in FY 2012. I'm in the process of having my BI adjudicated and I thought I was right there to start the program in the Spring semester (Jan). Before I freak out I wanted to check and see what others are hearing.

Thank you very much to whoever responds.

Anyone asking about federal employment in September/October/November are really asking "crystal ball" questions that nobody can answer. The federal budget goes from 10/1/XX to 9/30/XX. We are at the end of this fiscal year and the money is gone. Most agencies subscribe to "use it or lose it."

As for FY 2012, nobody knows what is going on. There is no budget in place which means the G may shut down letting non-essential folks out of the office, and thus those that do the hiring processing are not in. Or the G may end up on a "continuing resolution" for monthe where agency may not spend more than they one year prior in that month, and all non-essential spending is cut. That typically means hiring is placed on hold.

It does not resume until Congress passses the new budget and each agency can see how much they really got (vs. asked for) and what they have to do to balance their own books.

And just because the USMS wants to hire, they have to make sure FLETC has the money to run.

From now until December, if you hear anything, unless on their letterhead it is all speculation.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

    Febeast,

Joeyd6 is absolutely correct. Nobody knows what will happen in the next fiscal year. The only thing that we have been promised in my district (one of the larger ones) is that major cuts are coming. We are expecting to lose vehicles, lose overtime, and *gasp* have to work our LEAP. The easiest collateral duty in-district has become the recruitment officer - 'cause every time his phone rings he can just say "hiring is frozen for now, check back later."
I don't know exactly what this will mean for a CSCEP candidate. However, the only advice that I can give is to keep doing everything you can to make yourself a more attractive candidate. From what you've posted, it sounds like your best bet is to finish the degree you're working on as that is rumored to be one of the qualifications for hire once it reopens (the other being military AND law enforcement with arrest authority, PLUS your test score). But, like I said, that's just the rumor. In any case, good luck to you.

The word I hear right now, allegedly from the top, is there are no basic classes to be held in FY 2012 or will the career board meet this fiscal year, so no promotions. Looks like we are coming up on some lean times.

I understand that the budget is the main issue now and always, and trying to find out anything for certain is speculation. It makes sense that the Marshals (or any agency) wouldn't set things up for money they don't know they have. It's unfortunate but reality is reality.

I'm in school now and have no choice but to wait until December anyway, either to graduate or start the co-op. Either way I'm in a good place (maybe not where I want but good nonetheless )

Thank you all very much for taking the time to read/respond to my question
