    Grade reclassification

I am seeking information on Grade reclassification or something of that nature. Has anyone ever tried it or know anyone that has. Long story short, I was hired at a lower grade than I could/should have been due to the answers provided regarding education provided on the pre-employment questionaire I completed years before being hired (I completed a Masters during the time I was waiting to be hired, but answered I did not when I first applied) Another agent told me you can file for a higher grade. Has anyone ever appealed to the agency or OPM through Grade reclassification for this? It just bothered me that there were people in my class with no experience and the same education as me hired at a higher grade.

We went through a grade reclassification with the VA, but that was an entire department and not an individual. I don't remember too much about it. I remember that someone from the VA came out and interviewed a few of us regarding the position description. There was an appeal process with OPM if we didn't agree with the VA findings. Whatever OPM decided was final with no appeal for a certain amount of years.

I know of one agent who was contacted the HR to request a grade reclassification because he had investigative experience. That one phone call promoted him to a GS-9 from a GS 7. He made the phone call to HR then sent an email follow up with a c.c. to his recruiter.

He is the only one I know that has been successful in the above incident.

Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

This is the first time I've heard of it being done also. I've worked with many who have tried, but none have been successful. They pretty much all hear, "you shouldn't have accepted the job at that pay level" if you were qualified for higher pay.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.

I should note that this was done when he was first offered the position with the FLEA. He was not in the academy when this was done. It was changed during the time of getting the job offer prior to attending FLETC. So technically this was arranged before his actual date of hire.

The original poster commented that he was hired and is now seeking a higher classification. There is no one that I know of that has been successful in that manner.
