I spotted the new USSS-UD and USCP openings on usajobs and was considering applying right out of college. I'd graduate next year in June, so does it make sense to apply now? I hear stories about how long the hiring process takes but I was wondering if over a year in advance might be too early.

June of 2012? That is way more than a year. That is more like 18 months or a year and half. I woudl say you are a little outside the mark, but hey, why not apply.

I applied at about the sane time as you while I was in college. I was scheduled to graduate the following year in May. I had a recruiter call me on the phone. I can't remember exactly what he said but I think he said I had to be within 9 months of graduating to be elgibile and I wasn't so he said apply later on.

They have those positions opening up every other month so maybe hold off until the summer.
