In Florida our public records law is very, very open. Pretty much anything is public information here unless you are a LEO or other protected status. Even then, all that does is give your address some protection.

Recently, we had some low life that has made it his personal vandetta to screw with any civil servant, do a public information request for the health insurance plan information on ALL county employees, starting with teachers. County lost in court, they had to provide it. He got dependant information, addresses of where people lived at, etc. Only thing that wasn't given was social security numbers and dates of birth. This scrote was running around with the names of cops and teachers kids. He got all of that. Teachers returned the favor though and showed up at his front door after looking up his personal information on the clerk of court's website and property appraiser's website. Funny enough, he posted a long diatribe on a website about how that was an invasion of privacy, but him getting the names of the children of cops and teachers wasn't.

I STILL Don't know how the courts awarded him dependent information. They argued that since taxpayers help pay for the insurance, they are entitled to know who it goes to.

Frankly, I count the years by until I retire. When I do, I fully plan on taking out a one page spread in the local newspaper and writing a long "SCREW YOU" letter to the general public for my years of service to them, and their years of kicking us in the face.

Florida does have some very open public records laws. I had never heard of this case, I'll have to do a bit more research, but I should be good 'cause I don't have any health insurance through the county. It's nice to be a military retiree and have TRICARE Prime for me and my family!

I'm not sure it the paper felt the low earners should be embarassed or if the paper felt the high earners should feel guilty but they made some sort of arbitrary judgement. For police officers, they like to manufacturer scandals involving overtime and retirement. They seem to relish stories that show a 20 year patrol veteran that works a lot overtime that makes him very highly compensated. It's always protrayed as scandalous that he makes more than a highly ranked commander in the Dept. They usually leave out the fact that he worked every weekend and off-day so that he could put his kid through college or pay for his parents hospice care. That's not as scandalous as "doubling his salary by taking advantage of the system" story.
AMEN to that! I know all to well how the paper likes to lie and glorify stories.....about a year ago we had a HUGE newspaper/news story at my job due to us sending a patient out of state, the family lied and said noone told them that we just shipped thier family member... the community bashed our hospital so bad...EVERY day I went in defense for our hospital and staff lol... I would probabley be fired if they knew it was me responding to the comments. the news even came there to film!! I will have to try to find the link to the story.... I was so mad about the whole thing b/c we take such good care of our patients it really does stink when the community judges you after you work your butt off and it's people that truly have no idea...

Just the way it is, but most cops don't become one to be praised for the job they do.
why are firemen different then police with posting salary? do they get theirs posted as well just curious? and I agree 100% LE is underappreciated, but take note it's usually the badd people that don't appreciate you so it should be taken with a grain of salt

Insurance was up so he had to either pay out of pocket or send her to Illionois there are no Vent/diailysis nursing homes in Florida.. they fail to mention that also .. he knew she would be leaving three months in advance, she was charity at our facility for a month before we shipped her but they failed to mention that rereading this still makes me angry... I forgot my sign on or I would post some of my replies.....lol
I don't agree with the date they sent her .... but you either have to pay or go... also she was a vegetable at the time of the move, prior to moving she agreed to go if that was the only place available for treatment to meet her specific needs ..not that, that matters really but just wanted to state her frame of mind

    Links deleted -

for some reason it's not showing all of the comments b/c there was like over 100 replies to both of these articles.... I had to stop responding to it before I gave myself away, some of the things people said was just awful! the news/media/public love stuff like this...basically they expected us to keep footing the bill.... we currently have three charity cases right now at our facility...

I've removed the links due to a few points that are of concern. There is too much information regarding the hospital (and your employer) and it's operations and there is too much information that can be readily traced back to you.

Yep, the EVT did one on our agency a couple of years ago but they only printed all those who made over 100K.
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.
