    e-cigarettes acceptable?

    Hi everyone,
I am in the process of applying to a federal position. I have quit smoking for 3 months now by using e-cigarettes. I was a smoker of over 10 years and nothing helped me quit, until I found electronic cigarettes. There is no tobacco only the nicotine in the e-juice. The ingredients are merely vegetable glycerin, nicotine, water, and food flavoring. Is there a policy against the use of "vaping"? (Vaping is another term for e-cigarette users since its not actual smoke it is water vapor) I know that smoking a no-no, their are no laws or anything I know of against e-cigarette use.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm a fed and our agency has people who smoke tobacco cigarettes, so I couldn't see anyone here making a fuss over something that's not tobacco. Tobacco policies probably vary agency to agency, and you'll probably have to take smoke breaks (tobacco or electronic substitute) outside of a government building, but it's hard for me to imagine an agency having a policy in place that bans employees from using what you're describing (so long as they do it in areas designated for smoking or elsewhere outdoors).

I can only speak for my agency, can't speak for USMS (the one you mentioned you were interested in) or any other agency's policies. At FLETC, you obviously can't smoke in doors or during class, but I don't recall specifically what their tobacco policy is for smoking. I dipped smokeless tobacco, so it wasn't an issue I encountered.

As far as USMS, lots of us dipped at FLETC. Several guys smoked. It was discouraged, and it put a huge target on your back for PT sessions, but they couldn't explicitly prohibit it.
