    Identity theft..

Since my question deals with medicare I figured it could best be answered here in the federal questions forum. I think, but am not sure that my identity has been stolen.
A guy claiming to be a Rep with a medical supplies company called and told me my wife's diabetes testing equipment was ready to ship and all they needed to finalize the order was the number on her medicare card to notify medicare. Since diabetics qualify for this equipment without cost and since she has gotten it before this way, but only through another company I figured the guy was who he said he was and like an idiot gave him the number, which is also my SS number.
I'm still sweating it, but since it has been 4 days and still no delivery I think I've been scammed.
If anyone knows what steps to take in this matter, who to notify, Etc. I'd be greatly appreciative for the Info. and any help you can provide

Medicare is a target for some of the worst fraud in this country. Primarily because they have very few people investigating it. It's easier for them to just write the check rather than see if it's legitimate. I'd contact Medicare, Bill. I bet anything all they will do is bill Medicare and you'll never get anything.

They have a website where you can contact them and check to see what bills they've paid on your card.

If you're a victim of ID theft, notify the three credit reporting agencies (Equifax, and the other two names escape me), banks at which you have accounts, credit card companies with whom you have accounts, and your local law enforcement agency.

Do *not* contact the FBI or USSS. You'll only be told to contact your local law enforcement agency.

As a general rule, federal law enforcement does not investigate individual ID theft cases; federal law enforcement investigates a person(s) who have stolen numerous IDs and are engaging in financial crime with that info.

Whoa, this is nearly a year old post.

Why would anyone think to contact the USSS for Medicare fraud?

The other two credit bureaus are TransUnion and Experian.

And Matt, the info is appreciated, but the OP has been banned, and the last activity on the thread was nearly a year ago. We'll let this one rest in peace.
