    TSA 1801s, Law Enforcement?

Saw these openings at our Airport here..

    Transportation Security Inspector - Surface - SV-1801-G

Transportation Security Inspector - Explosives Detection Canine Handler - SV-1801-G

    Transportation Security Inspector - Cargo - SV-1801-G

I realize they are not under the federal law enforcement retirement, but are these considered law enforcement positions?

The only TSA personnel that I know of that have full LE powers are a very few Series 1811's. There are Series 1801's that have LE powers and carry firearms, but not in TSA. I have seen TSA K-9 officers at our airport and they are NOT ARMED. I believe USPS Inspectors are Series 1801's and have full LE powers of arrest and carry firearms.

Please note, we are not talking about Sky Marshals, they might be 1801 and of course are armed.

No. They are security/regulatory positions. If it interests you, apply, but you won't have powers of arrest, carry firearms, etc.

That's not accurate, air marshals are series 1801, and are fully sworn federal LEOs.

Re-read my answer. Air Marshals ARE LEO's with arrest powers and GUNS, I just wasn't sure if they were 1801's or another series of 1800. You can be an 1801 and have full LE powers and firearms, as you know the majority of 1801's are security/regulatory...as you stated.

We are probably splinting hairs here, but I read your post the first time. You only stated air marshals were armed, which is true, but so are any number of federal security (non-LE) positions. Air marshals are fully sworn LEOs, though.

Immigration Enforcement Agents (ICE/DRO) are also 1801 and law enforcement. USF&WS Rangers are 1801, they carry firearms and make arrests- I don't know if they get the L.E retirement.

The above are covered positions with LE retirement.

No Kimble, THIS is splitting hairs:

Actually, USFWS Officers are currently 0025, yet there is a push within DOI to make them 1801s and more in line with BLM Rangers and USFS LEO 1801s All three of those positions, and NPS Level I 0025s are 6c covered and fully commissioned federal officers.
