FBI application questions: also aplicable to other agencies

Questions WRT FBI "Special Agent Entry Programs" (SAEP) and "Critical Skills" (SACS).

With my military background I obviously qualify for the Diversified SAEP and Military SACS.

However, I'm currently pursuing a MS in CIS which would qualify me for the CS/IT SAEP and CS/IT SACS.

    1. How close to completion do you have to be to claim a degree towards a SAEP/SACS? Most announcements require all qualifications to be current/ complete as of the closing date, but the current SA announcement closes over 10 months from now and I understand applications are accepted and processed on a rolling basis.

    2. Would there be advantage to applying for the CS/IT SAEP but listing myself as a military SACS? In other words how do I best take advantage of my broad background?

    3. Is it possible/ would there be any point in putting in TWO applications, one for Diversified and one for CS/IT?

In general, WRT other applications I'll be putting in, is there any general advice regarding highlighting past experience and qualifications?

Not knowing your background, etc. only you can know if you feel you are both qualified and competitive enough to apply at this time.

If it were me - I would put in for what you are currently qualified under (you can always update your resume/qualifications as you get them completed). Definitely do not put anything on your resume that you have not yet completed unless you note that you are within "x hours of completion" etc. You may want to call for guidance though, because I believe they only want completed items on there.

The hiring process for Federal Programs are so long that you want to apply as soon as you are qualified and competitive. As for the Bureau, you can read about the hiring blitz going on right now, so that can only help those that fit what they are looking for.

I'll add to Wolfman's comments by noting that he is our site's resident FBI agent, so take what he says to heart. He's been through the application process within the last few years, and is therefore up-and-up on their process.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

I just finished the application last night.

It allowed me to choose all the EP's I felt qualified for, so I chose both Diversified and Military. I was able to mention that I am pursuing a CIS degree elsewhere, so I think that's covered.

Now to fax everything in, then work on my PT.
