I had to go down to the valley on a case and worked with your agents. Great guys, they helped me tremendously, and through their assistance I was able to get the perp federally indicted, prosecuted and sentenced.

I also worked with the ICE office in Harlingen on another case. Same story, their assistance resulted in the same conviction. I have only positive stories about the ICE SA and Border Patrol who work in South Texas.

The only bad rumor I heard is that the agents call the valley the Black Hole because once you go down there, you never get out.

All in all, there is so much work and action down there, I am sure you will enjoy the job. The U.S. Attorney's Office down there is top notch. Good luck.

The CBP upgrade is going to be a nightmare for the current 12's. Where is the incentive if they do not bump them up? I am an 11/9, so I wonder if I will be a 12/3 or 12/4 come the new 2010 pay scale.

TX ICE, Congrats on getting 1811! Joeyd pretty much got it perfect. His illustration is exactly how ICE OI's works as well.

    IEA upgrade?

Does anyone know what the status is with the possible upgrade for IEAs to 11s?

It's funny you ask that, I saw the video feed from the town hall meeting. Janet was specifically asked about the pay upgrade. Here's my best rendition of her response....." um ahhhhhhh, ahmmmmm, ummm, Im going to choose not to comment on that issued currently until after I see where the budget stands". That's pretty much it in nutshell, seriously. IEA's wont be getting upgrades for awhile unfortunately.

Well, I am just starting my career...it will be a few years before I would be up for 11....maybe by then...we'll see.

    How do the steps progress?

I am awaiting an 1811 position with ICE. I understand the grade levels, but how exactly do the stepswithin each grade level work?

You're a new member here, so it's expected that you might not be familiar with the layout yet, but please READ the information posted in the thread before asking a question already answered: Paygrade Progression Question

If you're serious about becoming an 1811, you need to realize that reading comprehension goes a long way in this field, as investigators often have to read a LOT of material to solve cases.

I'm not sure if he received any offer other then Laredo. I do know he turned down the offer. He said he didn't want to move to Laredo and as a current GS-12 he was going to take to much of a hit going back to a GS-7 plus having to go back to a 5 month long academy.

Congrats on receiving more then 1 offer. Not your falt but that kind of chaps my a$$. When I got my offer it was for 1 location and I was told in no uncertain terms that if I turned down the location I was out of the process. I turned down the offer.

Maybe ICE was smart when they lost to many applicants. I don't know how much they spent on me but I'm sure it wasn't cheap. I also know they lost a BUNCH of people trying to fill those position(s) I turned down.

I read someting recently (but I can't find it) that explained how to calculate your upgrade from a step 9 or step 10. Something about adding the difference from a step 9 to a step 10 (about $2K) and then finding that amount on the GS-12 scale.

I can't remember all of it but I think you're going to get the GS-12 Step 4.

I can't remember all of it but I think you're going to get the GS-12 Step 4.
If you are in steps within a grade and get promoted, this is the formula:
    1) Take your CURRENT GRADE (9,10,11,12,13), and determine what the difference is between steps within that grade. The difference between a steps within a grade is the same for all teh steps in that grade.

    2) Take that difference you found and DOUBLE it!

    3) Add the double difference to you current grade/step.

    4) Take that number and look for it in the next grade you are being promoted to. You will be given the step in that grade which is the FIRST one to exceed that number.

    For example....if you are a GS-11, step 9....
    1) GS-11, step 9 makes: $63,695. The difference between steps for the GS-11 level is $1,676.

    2) $1,676 x 2 = $3,352

    3) $63,695 + $3,352 = $67,047

    4) If GS-12 is next grade level you promote to, look at the chart for the step in GS-12 that is EQUAL to or the first one ABOVE that number. Here are the step numbers for GS-12:
    Step 1 = $60,274
    Step 2 = $62,283
    Step 3 = $64,292
    Step 4 = $66,301
    Step 5 = $68,310
    Step 6 = $70,319
    Step 7 = $72,328
    Step 8 = $74,337
    Step 9 = $76,346
    Step 10 = $78,355
A promotion means you get promoted to the FIRST step which is equal to or $67,047. So a GS11-8, getting promoted to a GS-12 would be a GS-12, step 5.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

I know you guys are tired of going round and round about pay but this one is a wee bit different. I was wondering if the step system is the same within the GS system as the TR system (LEO)? I am trying to see if the same sequence of steps apply to the TR system as the GS. Thanks!!

Lefty, first of all, Welcome to RP from the Florida Panhandle! Glad you found our site and joined up, but kind of confused on why you've made your first post on a thread that's almost two years old. Why don't you try posting your question fresh in a thread of it's own. Resurrecting long gone threads is considered bad form here at RP.

    Thread closed.

Also, if you're going to use an acronym that isn't common knowledge, it helps if you tell us what that acronym means first. I've never heard of a "TR system (LEO)" related to federal paygrades, so it's not a term everyone is familiar with.
