I can't remember all of it but I think you're going to get the GS-12 Step 4.
If you are in steps within a grade and get promoted, this is the formula:
1) Take your CURRENT GRADE (9,10,11,12,13), and determine what the difference is between steps within that grade. The difference between a steps within a grade is the same for all teh steps in that grade.
2) Take that difference you found and DOUBLE it!
3) Add the double difference to you current grade/step.
4) Take that number and look for it in the next grade you are being promoted to. You will be given the step in that grade which is the FIRST one to exceed that number.
For example....if you are a GS-11, step 9....
1) GS-11, step 9 makes: $63,695. The difference between steps for the GS-11 level is $1,676.
2) $1,676 x 2 = $3,352
3) $63,695 + $3,352 = $67,047
4) If GS-12 is next grade level you promote to, look at the chart for the step in GS-12 that is EQUAL to or the first one ABOVE that number. Here are the step numbers for GS-12:Step 1 = $60,274
Step 2 = $62,283
Step 3 = $64,292
Step 4 = $66,301
Step 5 = $68,310
Step 6 = $70,319
Step 7 = $72,328
Step 8 = $74,337
Step 9 = $76,346
Step 10 = $78,355
A promotion means you get promoted to the FIRST step which is equal to or $67,047. So a GS11-8, getting promoted to a GS-12 would be a GS-12, step 5.
