We have Postal Police here in Atlanta. They mostly do security work. It is an in house appointment so unless you work for the Postal Service you will not get the job. Pay and bennies are top notch. I hope this helps.

I think they handle mail fraud cases. They also investigate stolen mail, such as welfare checks.

That would be Postal Inspecters not the Postal Police. In some jurisdictions, the Postal Service has uniformed Police officers. Can you tell I live near the Postal Service headquarters for Ga? :DOriginally Posted by greenlead

We could use some here! Can you file a complaint with them for the Mail Carriers?
question, isn't the USPS considered a government sponsored private orginization? I know some security guards are locally deputized for arrest powers, but it it was a private entity? are they really police?

Do you mean file a complaint against the carrier? If so you would contact the inspecter general for the post office that services you.

Postal Police and Inspectors are federal law enforcement officers The Inspectors attend training at their own facility in MD, while the Police go through the Mixed Basic Police Training at FLETC. The post office is a quasi government agency. However, the government has embued some private agencies with police authority such as the railroads and now the Federal Reserve Bank. I'm not sure about Amtrak Police, though, they might fall under the same categoty as the Postal Police. Hope this helps.
Law abiding citizens sleep peacefully in their beds, solely because dedicated men and women stand ready to do violence in their behalf.
I applied for USPS Police, passed the test, and now got a letter basically saying due to an overwhelming response they are saying thanks but no thanks. I wonder if that is true or maybe it was something on my app they didnt like? And also instead of keeping my app. on file for future, they just deactivated it. I am just curious if it was me or what?

We had tow postal employees go "postal" on each and really got into it good. They called 911. Upon our arrival we found two carriers kicking each otehrs buts pretty good. And we found one postal police officer trying to break it up. My partner and I got involved and between the three of us we got the two parties handcuffed. We asked the postal cop where we should take them....or if they wante dto come back to our house for processing. He explaiend he could not take the collars! He explaiend they hold peace officer status when working but do not take collars in NY. He explained even though he saw the whole thing...the US PS rules said he couldn't take it. So off we went with the two collars. A few hours later though the Inspectors showed up from the inside investigation team. While they would not handle the case....they did get involved for thier disciplinary end. The inspectors told us that the Postal Police here do not have any powers off-duty...they are just like the VA Hospital Police. Not sure if this is a NY thing or nationwide thing.
Commiting an offense against a postal worker is the same as commiting an offense against a federal employeee.Originally Posted by ngcsubutterbar
