Is this for the hiring pool letter or the call for a job? I'm guessing (hoping) hiring pool letters go out in January and actual job offers are going on as we speak to fill up the February class. I know this is a hard question to answer, but does anyone know the rough percentage of those who make it through the whole process only to be shot down by the hiring board? It seems like if you passed the panel, pass the medical, and have your background squared away, you should be put in the pool. I'm just trying to make myself feel good about my chances I guess.

I doubt anyone will know the percentage but from what I have read and been told the panel is the best and biggest weed out tool the NCIS uses. If the panel recommends you and HQ agrees, I like the odds that you will make it to the pool if your BI and medical go well. Obviously, not 100% make it but there could be a multitude of reasons why; BI, Med, Crit skills, not as competitive as other candidates. Just my 2 cents.

I'm going with "the call." I have a feeling the next hiring board for putting folks in the pool will be in January. I'll put 10 cents down for you in January!

On a serious note, I agree with underseige. From what I was told (don't you just love these), NCIS wouldn't spend the money to finalize medical screening if they didn't plan on pushing forward. This is pending that at the end of the BI they don't find anything glaring, and if they find anything questionable I have a feeling they would call to get further clarification from yourself. So as stated before, no news is good news.

I received a "highly recommended" from the panel, passed the med, and received a "highly recommended" from the BI and still did not make the pool. I did an FOIA and found out all of this. I was told that even though I have extensive criminal investigation experience and a master’s degree, I do not have military service and do not speak a foreign language, which may have led to my demise. I am going to apply again next time around. I was also told by friends who work for NCIS that it mostly depends on what applicants are coming up for pool review and what they are looking for at the time that your packet is being reviewed by HQ. So, you may have a lot of competition one time around and not as much the next time around.

    Lawman,

I am very sorry to hear of your unfortunate news. From what I was told it is all about the current needs of the agency. Those needs seem to be cyber and language experience right now and will change at some point. It sounds like you would make a great agent and should definitely apply again. Good luck.

Many agents, myself included, had to apply more than once before getting hired. If you want to work for this outfit, don't take a turn-down on your first application as an outright defeat. Reapply when you can.

Dude--That plain just sucks, there's no other way to say it. NCIS is where I want to be, but I don't know why they don't do their hiring like USSS or some of the other agencies. It seems like a huge waste of time and money to do a background and medical on someone who still could not be offered a final slot. If they liked you after the panel and passed you, barring some crazy issues in your medical or background, you should get the gig. NCIS has had to fly agents to several spots in the country where I have lived and they had no agents close by. It just makes sense that they should only be doing this if they really wanted to hire me. Oh well, just my two cents. This is my third time applying, so hopefully I'll have more luck. Keep your head up Lawman, be persistent, I've been chasing this dream since 2004.

Just read on another forum that some guys are starting to get emails that their packet is going to a panel at the beginning of Dec. If anyone on this board got the nod, good luck, let us hear if you get some good news. I wasn't lucky enough to get an email, I think I'm still in limbo between them finishing my background and getting my packet sent to a board.

latest RUMINT I've heard is a FLETC class may begin as early as March 2010. For those in the process, keep patient and good luck!

I received the email, it didn't say much. They just basically wanted you to update your information. It also stated that there is a possibility of a class in spring 2010. It also clearly stated that even though you are a receipent of this email, that doesn't mean you will get an invite.

I received the same email. Sounds like they are just refreshing their hiring pool so they don't waste time with applicants who may have moved on or are no longer interested. My guess is Jan, 2010 should be an interesting month, maybe the only interesting month for this FY.

    SABT Class

I received my pool letter during the Christmas holidays and received the call just checking if I was still available for a March Class. I found out yesterday through a friend who is an NCIS agent that the SABT course is scheduled for February 8th - April 20th...i will need both CITP and SABT so it looks like I won't be eligible for this academy bacause from what i have it understood they require CITP first then SABT. Does anyone know when the next full academy will happen, rumor is June??

First off, congrats man, that's awesome, what a sweet Christmas present, I was hoping for the same but had to settle for an ipod. I had heard the first full class was going to be in June and then I heard an extra one was starting around March. I wasn't told if it was starting with CITP or SABT, I just figured it was CITP, but I guess maybe it's not.

Well, a week ago someone posted on another blog that an already certified 1811 was hired and was starting the follow-up class in the beginning of Feb. I have also talked to the recruiter and he indicated they are still planning a basic class in March and another in May. He also stated that next year seems to be the same schedule.
Good luck to all those in waiting...
