I would be interested in an appetizer!
On May 17, I received the "Call" from NCIS. I was told they had a small class coming up in July for FLETC and asked if I would be interested. The location that I was offered was not on my list but I don't mind.
Thanks for the help from everyone on the board and especially Kimble!
Congrats! Sent you a pm. I have a couple of ?
Thanks.
got the call today for the late july class. same thing; duty location wasnt on my list but of course i accepted. thanks go to kimble for his many posts on this and other forums.
report date is crazy soon for the field office...like 20 days kind of soon. i own one suit that i rotate to weddings, funerals, and job interviews. time to update my closet...unless they enjoy new hires wandering around in slayer and morrissey shirts. :-)
Congrats to everyone getting calls, I remember how good that feels. During the time between you're reporting to your FO and going to FLETC get involved in as much as you're allowed to. When you get to FLETC, train hard, study often (especially if you're not prior LE), and make time to get off campus with classmates and have some fun (i.e. going to the G-bar every night is NOT getting off campus!). Remember two important things: 1) your reputation as an agent begins during your training at FLETC, and 2) FLETC is not Las Vegas (what happens there gets documented and your FO management reviews it closely).
For those still in the process or waiting for calls that haven't come yet, keep the faith. It's a long process for sure, and constantly dwelling over when the next class is/when the next hiring board is/how many classes are forecast over the next decade/etc. will only drive further into madness.
Congrats to those who've won the race and continued good luck to those still in the running!![]()

My new hero!
Got a July 11th class date. Any NCIS folks with the same date? (Got picked up by CGIS)
Kimble - You are definitely on the list of people who have been really helpful during this process. Good luck everybody, and I will see you in July!
Im new to the board, thought i'd post my timeline for NCIS so far....
Jan 2010 - Applied
April 2010 - Request for follow up info
November 2010 - Screening Board
Jan 2011 - BI started
Jan 2011 - Drug/Medical completed
I’m also new to this board and my timeline is similar to WindyCitycops. I received my pool letter back in March but USA Jobs still shows my status as pending background. Is this normal or should it change since the background is complete? I don’t want to call personnel and be that guy that bugs them if that’s the usual status, but I also don’t want to miss out because my packet got lost among the thousands of others!
If you received your pool letter than that means that HQ has your packet and it has been submitted into the hiring pool. I wouldn't get too caught up on your USA Jobs status.
Just remember that USAJobs is run by the Office of Personnel Management, not NCIS or any specific FLE agency. Take what it says about your application status as a general idea vice absolute gospel (especially when it gets past the point of submitting the application online through the USAJobs website). If you received the hiring pool letter, even the FBI would call that a clue.![]()

My new hero!
Thanks for the replies. I just want to make sure I have done everything I need to do.
I already know the answer to the question before I ask it, but this will at least make the NCIS thread pop up and give me a beacon of hope.....
Has anyone heard annnnyyyy intel on the hiring posture for NCIS in 2012?
Has anyone heard anything regarding NCIS class dates recently? I received my hiring letter back in May 2011 and am aware of all the budget woes, but I had heard rumors as recently as a couple months back about them still having classes this year to offset loss due to attrition. Anyone got any different or updated intel?
I've heard that NCIS will have one class for FY 2012. But it's a mystery as to how people are picked, ranked, or categorized to receive a class date. I believe class size are between 20-30 so if the hiring pool is in the 1,000s then it's going to be a while.
I received my hiring pool letter Sep 2011. Has anyone received a class date in recent years and how long was your wait time between pool letter and class date?
