They don't admitt that but that was the reason they were created. They are the original "revenoor's."

That's a secret?...that a (until recently) Treasury Department bureau, that evolved from a division of the Internal Revenue Service, is interested in collecting taxes?Originally Posted by bhanson
Actually, the ATF doesn't collect taxes anymore. That is the job of the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau I believe. Here is the web address:http://www.ttb.gov/index.htmOriginally Posted by bhanson

The BATF has evolved greatly from the days of its inception. What they did when the agency was created and what they do now has changed a great deal. They are a great agency with a rather broad enforcement responisbility. It's one of the few agencies I would consider switching to... not that I would even consider switching agencies.

Remember those who died, remember those who killed them.
The ATF is one of the few LEA's that I am very interested in applying to. I heard a rumor that they may be opening up their 1811 vacancy on 10/01/04 for the next fiscal year....anyone else heard anything on this? Their vacancy has been closed for a while.
That description hurts a little. Actually the 1811s, do not deal with the tax side, that is the Inspectors. The 1811s concentrate on the violations of NFA and GCA-firearms/explosive cases, as well as arson. Also work closely with the locals, including on drug and gang task forces, violent crime initiatives, and firearm/narcotic interdiction programs, and this just scratches the surface. Actually a rather broad array of fun to have. It is by far the best federal LE agency to work for. :DOriginally Posted by bhanson
