Switchback, I hear and understand what you are saying. Sometimes some districts get pushed to the wayside. There were people who finished there process in a timely manner and waited 1 yr before they were called for FLETC. 48 per class is true, but the district that I am in, only had 2 seats out of 48, some like Super Court (DC) had about 12 in one class...... not to mention some of the Co-Op, S-Stars that were still waiting and took the remaining seats. I am just speaking as to what current DUSMS and soon to be DUSMS (FLETC) have experienced and also myself...... In reality.... I hope everyone on this forum gets to go in October!

Again, what the current DUSMs are saying does nto really apply. There has NEVER been a hiring initiative like this. Now, compound that with the fact that the hiring will be done regionally, and I think you will find that the slots will be more evenly distributed.

Now, if you are looking for a sub-office, you will probably be SOL. Most slots will be going to the busiest of offices in the region. You will get no sympathy from anyone, as those smaller, more desireable offices probably have a list of people looking to transfer to them.

hmm I am really surprised about this. So this has never happened before with USMS? It is a relatively small agency around 8000 employees I have read, does this mean they are being expanded?

We only have about 3500 DUSMs. We plan to hire about 700 more. We also have several hundred support personnel, but no where near 8000 total.

...and wouldn't think that a 20% increase in operational personnel in a single year is quite an unusual event?

oh wow! nice! well then I am definitely looking forward to trying to get into the region 8 info session. Now if I get selected I will probably fly out there. After that if I am selected for an interview, would I have to fly out to region 8 again or could I just do the interview at a local marshal office?

    Thanks

The interviews are done in specific locations. The best you can hope for is doing the fit test at a local office.

    New DUSM Career Path

It is a great time to join the USMS!

With new policy, effective August 31, 2009, a new DUSM hired as a GL-0082-7 will reach journeyman GS-1811-12 in three years from date of hire. It will take one additional year for a new DUSM hired as a GL-0082-5.

    Hello All!

I also recieved my email pertaining to the oct. interview. I am very new to all this, and I am keeping my hopes high. From what I have read through reseaching is the hiring process is very unpredictable, and is in no way shape or form a sure shot regardless of your experiences. That being the case I am trying to be the best I can be physically and training my butt off (would hate to make it to the end of the process and fail the fit, god forbid). By chance does anyone know what to expect at the interview? I hear it is a "panel" interview. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to all, god bless!!

It will be you being interviewed by 3 Deputy U.S. Marshals. It is not designed to be that high stress (most will be self-induced). The way things have been going, about 2/3 of those being interviewed fail.

There are specific questions that you MUST answer a certain way. There are some that are just background. Any additional information would just be unfair. neither me, nor the others going into the interview, were given that liesure.

    Good luck.
