    FLETC CITP Fitness requirement

Has anyone heard what the physical fitness requirement is for CITP? I have heard a minimum of 40% on the scale and I have heard it all has to do with the agency. I am just trying to get a feel for what is expected.

I am really only interested in the current standards. I have read a lot of older post that there is no real minimum and it only depends on your agency standards. I have recently been told that there is still no minimum and that there is a 40% min.

Any current students who know how it works?

I just graduated from CITP a couple of weeks ago. As far as the PEB goes it is participation what the PTD staff is looking for. My understanding is that FLETC is trying to change that and place a minimum standard for future CITP classes. Who knows if that will ever happen.

Depending on the instructor you could be in for some intense Officer Response Tactics (ORT) sessions. Both of our instructors put us through some good workouts.

FLETC require "participation" in all sessions. That is it. Give it 110% and they will leave you alone.

But your individual agency MAY have stricter standards to remain hired there. So. you may be at FLETC 40%, but if your AGENCY requires more, you have to deal with that.

My PT/ORT instructor for CITP had written up a bunch of people (letters go to your agency) for not being able to keep up during the runs. The instructor basically said while "participation" is required, if you are walking (that was absolutely not tolerated in my class) or falling back during long runs, you are not "participating."

I think that if you get written up three times you're out. Several of my classmates was written up twice during CITP. The others (who were not in shape) would wake up at 5 in the morning to work out before the day started.

It all depends on who your PT/ORT instructor is. While our PT/ORT sessions were pretty intense, the other half of our CITP class got POUNDED during their sessions (they once had to do 12 rounds of Bas Rutten which included running a lap with the rope between rounds).

Best advice is to NOT go down to FLETC expecting to use the training to get you in shape. You should be in pretty good shape before getting there or you'll most likely be in trouble.

When you guys say keep up, what kind of shape do I have to be in? Are we talking 2-3 mile runs or 5-6 miles? I am going to be with ICE and they currently don't have a standard, just effort. They said that CITP had a standard of 40%.

I just graduated from a state police academy and am in pretty good shape. I am only concerned about the bench press. Do you know if CITP had a minimum that would get me bounced? I am not sure if I can get to the 40% for the bench, everything else, shouldn't be an issue. I also heard that it is a not a true bench press, but on a bench machine.

I want to go in there knowing that I am going to pass. I want to be able to pass the minimum right when I get there.

Are you with ICE-DRO or ICE-OI?

The runs will depend on who your PT/ORT instructor is. Some like to run farther than others. My PT/ORT instructor set the pace and if you couldn't keep up (which basically meant you were running with the pack) you were considered to be "not participating."

As for the bench press, it's on a machine so if you can bench 225 with free weights, you'll probably bench 300 on the machine. It's not really a "true" bench press because it's easier to lift heavier weight on the machine.

If you just finished a State police academy, you should be good to go.

OI, is there a difference from DRO. All the guys I interviewed with were current DRO. I guess they had to go back to fletc training again.

The CITP portion of your training depends on your instructor as well. There are different instructors from different agencies running PT and they really make all the difference as to how hard or soft they are going to go on your class. PT and DT are thrown into one so you will do both with the same instructor.
