I wasn't sure if Rangers were considered part of a federal agency or not, so I decided to post this here. I don't really hear about Texas Rangers in the news or anything. Are they still relevent and what type of things do they exactly do.

The Rangers are not federal but state. They are very hard to get on with, turning down hundreds of applicants a year. A very respected agency.

Texas Rangers are the investigators for the Texas Department of Publice Safety (state police). A few (15) years ago, when I was assigned to Texas, I think their number was set at 99 Rangers. It may be more now.
It is probably one of the hardest LE jobs to get that there is. I got to work with them a few times and I was pretty impressed.
