    ROTC degree

I am a high school student and am looking into college ROTC programs,
but I was wondering, what sort of degree would help me get into a federal law enforcement position in the future?
Basically I was planning on doing ROTC, serving my six to eight years in something to do with intelligence, then applying for a position in a government agency.
Any advice anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    Amanda

Any 4 year degree will suffice. However, I would get a degree in something you can use and will enjoy. If I were to get another degree it would be in engineering, accounting, or economics.

If you are set on ROTC Texas A&M is the place I recommend. It has the best ROTC program in the nation, in my opinion.

ROTC is a good choice. I would choose computer science or something computer related if I was going to do it. Information/Tech is a growing field.

    Good Luck,

I'm not going to get into the whole UT Vs. TAM which is better ( HINT: I attended a A&M school :D)

By the way I've heard a lot about the ROTC program @ Texas A&M. This is the first I've ever heard about the program at UT. I didn't even know UT had a ROTC program.

Why A&M can't put a decent football team together is one of the mysteries of life :D;)

You can do a search there have been a million questions on which degree is best.

Simple answer is ANY degree you complete. 99% of Federal Law Enforcement Agencies (or any LE Agency) DO NOT CARE what your degree is in all they care about is that you have a degree.

That being said Accounting, Computers, or a JD can only help.

Military time (with an honerable discharge) & College degree is a great start for any LEO position.
    Wrong door, buddy

Yes UT Austin has Navy, Marine Corps (both in the same unit), Army and Air Force ROTC. I was in the Naval ROTC while my roommate was in the Army ROTC. We both got commissioned together and I went to flight school to earn my wings, he went to become a field artillery officer with two tours in Iraq.

Like said before its not wise to enter a which school is better competition, but if you want to see pages and pages of that stuff, including comparisons to other ROTC units across the country go to airwarriors.com and just type in Texas A&M or UT Austin into the search engine. The site is geared towards naval aviation so they're a bit biased :D

As for the degree just go with what interests you or you'll be miserable in college.

If that's your plan, your experience gained as a military intel officer will be more valuable than what degree you get. We have an agent here that studied history, went through ROTC with the Army, and worked as an intel officer. All our agency cared about when he applied concerning his degree was that he had one.

It is also going to depend on what agency you want to work for. If you want to be a spook, then history with minors in political science and language will be good. Engineering would be good for ATF. Basically you need to do something that is going to make you happy. If you do engineering with an emphasis in aerospace and become a fighter jockey, you may not even care about being a federal employee down the road. If you end up in the right area in the military, you can still have a good life. If you end up becoming a grunt or artillery (note MOS 0844) you will spend a lot of time on deployment and in the field.

"Spook" is a slang term for someone working in the Intelligence Community.
