    ICE Question

    Hey Everyone,

As in my previous message quite awhile ago, I am a current undergrad majoring in accounting working at CBP under DHS. I am mainly doing paper work but I wanted to get into the investigative side. I know ICE of DHS deals with more investigative type of work. Now I know for most organizations starting off as an intelligence analyst or assistant can propel you to agent after a few years. My question is if I choose to become an intelligence assistant for ICE then after a couple of years would it be possible to be hired as an agent?

    Thank you,

    Stephen

Anything is possible. I couldn't say if working as an Intell assistant would help. But working (anywhere) and the degree is a good start. The good thing about working for CBP or ICE is you get a jump on building up your vacation time ;)

If you get a job with Intell it may give you a better idea of what ICE 1811 do.

    Stephen,

Honestly, there are plenty of CBPO's getting hired right now that are just regular officers (although intel certainly wouldnt hurt). Getting your masters is definately a good start, but I would say apply as soon as they start accepting resumes for 1811 again (rumor has it may/june timeframe). They are hiring like crazy, and getting an 1811 slot is all about timing. Good Luck.

I am trying to land another federal internship before graduation next year. I have heard mixed things from a lot of people about when to apply. I applied to the USSS UD and they told me to hold off until october. I applied to a few others too, they all want me to apply a little later. I thought agencies could offer conditional employment, meaning you have a job offer and you can take it after graduation. If that is the case... do I find them or do they find me, and offer me conditional employment?

    Thank you again,

    Steve

I would think you would have to find them, there are way to many people who want an 1811 position for the different agencies to go looking for people.

Most agencies want you to apply when you are about 7 months away from graduation.
