    Eligibility

    Hello,

I wanted to get everybody's opinion on what would increase my eligibilty for a Federal SA position. Right now my goal is to work for the DEA. I currently am a Junior at a University majoring in Criminal Justice. I work for the local police department as a Community Service Officer (non-sworn position) and start a volunteer position with the local DEA office this week. I am also pursuing other internships, hopefully in the D.C. area. I am a part of many other extracurricular and volunteer activities. I turn 21 the month I am set to graduate with a B.S. degree.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what I could be doing right now to make me a more competitive candidate? I realize I have little experience and am looking into getting some LE or military experience first. Thanks!

    Start honing your investigative skills.

For instance, there is a very new, very informative thread about this exact topic. It has exactly what you want in it. Check it out here.

If you want to be a federal agent/criminal investigator, you need to develop some research skills (that's all investigative work is). The search function on this forum will give you everything you need. In addition to the thread Citicop provided, here's another one you could easily find upon doing a quick search: http://forums.realpolice.net/showthread.php?t=82267

The BS degree and the intership with DEA is a good start. Finishing up college at 21 is the major hurdle.

I'm not saying it can't be done but you may want to consider a position with the local PD or SO to gain some experience or even join the military. 4 years can't hurt and the honerable discharge & 5 Vet points can only help.

25 - 28 years old witha college degree & either LEO experience or military time with clean credit makes you much more eligible.
    Wrong door, buddy
