    ATF Test Announcement

I just received an email saying that I am scheduled to take the ATF Special Agent Exam in 2 weeks. I took (and passed) the TEA Exam and the ATF Special Agent Assessment Test. In this email, under special remarks, it says the following:

Since ATF is now under the U.S. Department of Justice, it has discontinued use of the TEA Exam and is now using the ATF Special Agent Exam.

But under the job posting that I applied to it says this:

    Key Requirements:
Take and pass TEA exam and Special Agent Applicant Assessment Test.
Be in compliance with current drug policy and pass drug test.
Take and pass polygraph examination and medical examination.
Must obtain a top secret clearance.
    Application must be received online.

I'm confused as to whether or not I have to take this test. I'm also not sure if that Special Agent Applicant Assessment Test is the same as the ATF Special Agent Exam. Also, does it matter that the job posting has the TEA Exam as the requirement and now they changed it?

Does anybody know anything about this? Thank you in advance.

    TEA Exam

When did you last take the TEA exam? Also, did you re-apply for the ATF position in the most recent announcement or are you still processing out of the fall 2007 announcement?

It appears ATF is having an agency specific test now, similar to the ICE Special Agent position. It was only a matter of time before they separated themselves from the TEA exam, as the ATF is no longer in the Treasury Department. The old TEA exam for ATF had the traditional TEA style for part 1 and the ATF Special Agent Assessment Section for part 2; which was more agency specific, as the questions were more scenario/judgment based.

I passed the test in May 2006 and I applied to the announcement that came out in November 2008.

I got the call for ATF last week. They offered me the S/A job in DC. However, I have to decline since I'm already here at FLETC for ICE S/A and dont want to be here any longer. Also, being stationed back home in the VI with ICE vs. DC with ATF is a no brainer for me. Just want to let you guys know that the calls are going out. Good luck to all.

    Diggy,

How long were you "all clear and waiting" when they called? I took my poly about 2 months ago and haven't heard anything since. Just trying to establish some type of timeline here. I applied under the 07-MULT announcement.

    Thanks

Im not sure how long it took for me to be selected. I had to do two polys and had a follow-up with my security interview. Last contact I had with the process was like a month ago, then I got the call last week so....

I in tested in March 07, I think I applied in Sept 06. With the ATF your looking at a longer than average process. Just hang tight and all the best.

Backround Investigator called and I'm meeting with him next week. Can anybody tell me how long it usually takes (on average) for them to complete a backround investigation? It feels good to have the process moving again!

After all the steps are completed, does ATF send you a letter stating you are all clear?

    Angry Maybe FY2011? 2012?

I heard ATF was only approved to hire 72 new agents this year from a field agent buddy of mine. Am I the only one out there that thinks a 3+ year applicant hiring process is a lil unreasonable? Maybe FY 2011? 12? 13? Sorry, just frustrated... The hurry up and wait game continues...

I hear ya! I'm in the same boat. I finished up my BI in late Janurary and back to the waiting game. I saw on another site the a few "thin" letters went out recently.
